...got his first big break by filling in for Buddy Holly on the "Winter Dance Party" tour after the fateful plane crash in Clear Lake Iowa. I believe he and his band were billed as "Bobby Vee and the Shadows." He later recorded an album with the Crickets and recently recorded a Buddy Holly tribute album.

BTW...I couldn't come up with a "U" artist.
