R.I.P. Jon Lord of Deep Purple

Post by fiona »

Another sad loss for music occurred yesterday when Jon Lord who was the organist and pianist from Deep Purple and Whitesnake passed away.

Deep Purple were a huge band here in the late 1960s and early 70s and "Smoke on the Water" is one of those songs that has stood the test of time and everyone seems to know. Whitesnake were pretty huge too.

Before those days though he was already working as a session musician and played the keyboards with The Kinks on "You Really Got Me" in 1964.

A respected composer he has written a lot of classical works including a concerto for the Hammond organ and orchestra, which is being premiered later this year.

His musical legacy will certainly live on.
I'm not going to let my history pull me down and hold me back, you see.

I remember Deep Purple and Whitesnake well. How sad we're losing so many wonderful artists lately. Celeste Holm died the other day.

RIP!
I'm not bad. I'm just drawn that way!
