Last original "Drifter" Bill Pinkney passes away a

Post by jodlyn »

He passed away at the Daytona Oceanfront Beach Resort where he was scheduled to perform at a 4th of July performance according to CNN.com.

Pinkney was the last original member of the band. Even though he had left the band before their biggest hits, his voice was featured in their hit "White Christmas!" He returned much later to tour and sing with the group at various performances.

He also was a World War II veteran and pitched for the New York Blue Sox of the Negro Baseball League in the 40's and 50's.

RIP Mr. Pinkney.

That's so sad

I remember seeing the group when they toured Britain in the 1970s but I don't know if he was with them or not at that time.

Yet another sad loss. :(
I'm not going to let my history pull me down and hold me back, you see.

I also remember seeing them in the late 70's and loving their concert. *Sigh* All the greats are leaving us.

There must be some rocking good heavenly concerts right now.
