Our first composers Happy Birthday thread

Post by fiona »

Today is Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's birthday. He was born in 1757 and lived just a mere 35 years, but managed over 600 compositions in that time.

Let's not forget the others though as they matter too even if they're not all as well known....

Juan Crisostomo Arriaga (Born in 1806 and known as the Spanish Mozart)
Edouard Victor Antoine Lalo (Born in 1823 in Lille, France)
Will Marion Cook (born 1869 in Washington D.C.)
Jerome Kern (born 1885 in New York City)
Radames Gnattali (born 1906 in Porto Alegre, Brazil)
Celso Machado (born 1953 in Ribeiro Preto, Brazil)

There are others, but these are the ones known the best out of them all.
I'm not going to let my history pull me down and hold me back, you see.

...Happy birthday to the Red Headed Stranger. Born in 1933, he started as a songwriter in Nashville before he tired of the traditional country scene and split for Austin to start the whole "outlaw" scene.

Champagne don't drive me crazy
Cocaine don't make me lazy
Ain't nobody's business but my own.
Candy is dandy but liquor is quicker
You can drink all the liquor down in Costa Rica
Ain't nobody's business but my own.

Happy Birthday to this wonderful American classical composer and teacher. He was born 17 May 1923 in Erie, Pennsylvania and died 17 June 1983 in New York.

He won the Gershwin Music Award in 1945 and Juilliard gives an award out in his name every year.

Alfred Éric Leslie Satie (Honfleur, 17 May 1866 – Paris, 1 July 1925) was a French composer, pianist, and writer.

Karel Stamic (May 7, 1745 - November 9, 1801), who took the German form of his name Karl Philipp Stamitz and is now better known as Carl, was a Bohemian composer, violin, viola and viola d'amore virtuoso. He was the most prominent of the second generation of the so-called Mannheim school.

May 22, 1813 - Richard Wagner, the famous opera composer, was born in Leipzig, Germany. He died in Venice, Italy on February 13, 1883. He was so controversial because of his anti-semitic writings, but his music is so beautiful.
