Mike Nesmith's mother invented Liquid Paper.

Next:

On many of Duane Eddy's records, he was backed by a vocal group called the Sharps who mainly did "whoops" and "yee haws" and hand claps in the background. This group later had a hit of their own under another name. What was the song and the name of the group?

Kris has been singing this song ever since she first learned to talk. A cousin loved singing this to her, and he taught her the song when she was only 1. It's a fun song!

And I didn't know Mike Nesmith's mother invented Liquid Paper. Wow, you learn things all the time here. :)

It's I'm right, then here's the next question:

Which band was originally known as the Golliwogs?
I'm not bad. I'm just drawn that way!

Now...if I remember right, Credence Clearwater Revival was once known as the Golliwogs.

NEXT:

Dave Thomas of "SCTV" and movie fame has a brother who had a sizeable top 40 hit in the US in 1973. Who is he and waht was the song?

That name always makes me think of frogs! [smile]

I think you're talking about Ian Thomas. He recorded "Painted Ladies". I've seen him on Strange Brew.

Hi Tmac. It's good to see you. :7207:

If I'm correct, then the next clue is:

What was the very first song played on MTV when it debuted on television?

Wasn't one of them a record executive and the others session singers signed by Gene Autry to his record label? That's all I remember about them except for the Tequila song. So I'll just say they were named by studio executives.

That's probably wrong, so I won't do a new clue until you tell me, Tmac.

Boy, this is a great question to stump us all...

Good job!

Post by tmac396 »

That's too close not to give it to you, Jody. One of the members had a contract with Challenge records which was owned by Gene Autry. Gene's horse was named Champion. When the group assembled to record they decided to call themselves the Champions in honor of Gene's horse. It was then shortened to the Champs.

Post away, Jody! :5170:

You posted a great trivia question. :)

Here's mine:

That would be a young Madonna, I believe. Good one! :5170:

What ironically was the last movie Keith Moon saw before his death?

Re: Correct as usual Tmac. It was a young Madonna...:)

Since I love the Who, I know this one. I watched a documentary on VH1 about the Who and Moon last year. He watched "The Buddy Holly Story" with Paul and Linda McCartney.

It's true what you said about the creepy ironic place he died. He died in the same room of the London flat Mama Cass Elliot died in 4 years before. Now that's spooky.

Great weird clues, Tmac.

Next clue:

I've been watching Gene Simmons Family Jewels on cable and think the show is funny and unique. So my question comes from that...

What is Gene Simmons birth name?

Bonus: Where was he born and what is his ethnic background?

I knew this one, but couldn't remember exactly, so I confess

Post by PapaMouse »

that I looked it up.

His birth name is Chaim Witz (I remembered the Chaim, but not the Witz), and he was born in Haifa, Israel. (I remembered that he was born in Israel.)

Simmons says he has never done recreational drugs. His reason? He doesn't want to worry his mother, who he says has lived through enough trauma in her life. (She and her brother were the only members of her family to survive the Holocaust.)

A slightly easier one. (OK, for this group, it's a much easier one):

Why did Chicago Transit Authority change their name to Chicago?

Not only did you get it, but you answered my long lost lonely post. Thank you for rescuing it. :1013:

I know this one. Chicago has always been one of my favorite bands. They changed their name because the real Chicago Transit Authority threatened legal action against them. Those stinkers believed the band would cause confusion by having the same name although I can't imagine how the band and their music would get confused with a transportation system.

Next question and this is a real oldie! :)

What patriotic song was originally titled "The Defense of Fort McHenry?
