Friday Song of the Day...For my daughter Kristina...

Post by jodlyn »

My daughter Kris is going snowboarding with her school today, so I was driving her to school at 5 this morning. We were talking about the trip and I was telling her how much I loved her, to be safe and to have a really good time in the snow. This song came on, and she got quiet. When it was over, she said it was the prettiest song she'd ever heard. No matter what sadness we sometimes encounter, there is always someone or something to smile over also.

Have a good weekend, Feenote people... :932:

By Brad Paisley and Dolly Parton.

When I get where I'm going
on the far side of the sky.
The first thing that I'm gonna do
Is spread my wings and fly.

I'm gonna land beside a lion,
and run my fingers through his mane.
Or I might find out what it's like
To ride a drop of rain

(Chorus:)
Yeah when I get where I'm going,
there'll be only happy tears.
I will shed the sins and struggles,
I have carried all these years.
And I'll leave my heart wide open,
I will love and have no fear.
Yeah when I get where I'm going,
Don't cry for me down here.

I'm gonna walk with my grandaddy,
and he'll match me step for step,
and I'll tell him how I missed him,
every minute since he left.
Then I'll hug his neck.

(Chorus)

So much pain and so much darkness,
in this world we stumble through.
All these questions, I can't answer,
so much work to do.

But when I get where I'm going,
and I see my Maker's face.
I'll stand forever in the light,
of His amazing grace.
Yeah when I get where I'm going,
there'll be only happy tears.
Hallelujah!
I will love and have no fear.
When I get where I'm going.
Yeah when I get where I'm going.
I'm not bad. I'm just drawn that way!

I've never heard that one, jodyangel.

But the lyrics are beautiful.

And when I get there, I know the first angel I'm going to look for. (Shouldn't take long. She'll either be at the gate waiting for me, or she'll be the one to come take me home.) And if I never meet any of you lovely people (face-to-face) down here, I'm sure we'll meet up there.
Lord, you have filled my cup so full,
How can I fear tomorrow?

I hadn't heard it either until Kris and I turned on the radio. I'm discovering country music now.

I have a feeling she will be there to take you home with her. At least that's what I believe. It's something good.

Ohhh you better believe we all will look for each other. Heaven is going to be a rocking good place once we all get together. Hmmmm..I wonder who God is going to pick as the bouncer when Lion-1's cafe gets a little too wild and woolly with all of us there! :P

I hope you are having a good weekend! :7207:

That's such a pretty song, Jody...

...and I've come here and read the lyrics several times when I needed a lift. Well, I needed a lift this morning, so here I am. I'm going to borrow your thread to post a Friday song for my sweet wife. This has been my song to her since we were teen-agers. Her sister is battling cancer and is not doing well, so she's pretty blue today. She and her sister are SO close...I'm going to send your lyrics to her this morning. I think they will help. Anyway, here's "our" song...

Van Morrison › Tupelo Honey

You can take all the tea in china
Put it in a big brown bag for me
Sail right around the seven oceans
Drop it straight into the deep blue sea
She's as sweet as tupelo honey
She's an angel of the first degree
She's as sweet as tupelo honey
Just like honey from the bee

You can't stop us on the road to freedom
You can't keep us cause our eyes can see
Men with insight, men in granite
Knights in armor bent on chivalry
She's as sweet as tupelo honey
She's an angel of the first degree
She's as sweet as tupelo honey
Just like honey from the bee

You can't stop us on the road to freedom
You can't stop us cause our eyes can see
Men with insight, men in granite
Knights in armor intent on chivalry
She's as sweet as tupelo honey
She's an angel of the first degree
She's as sweet as tupelo honey
Just like honey from the bee

You know she's alright
You know she's alright with me
She's alright, she's alright (she's an angel)

You can take all the tea in china
Put it in a big brown bag for me
Sail it right around the seven oceans
Drop it smack dab in the middle of the deep blue sea
Because she's as sweet as tupelo honey
She's an angel of the first degree
She's as sweet as tupelo honey
Just like honey from the bee

She's as sweet as tupelo honey
She's an angel of the first degree
She's as sweet as tupelo honey
Just like the honey, baby, from the bee
She's my baby, you know she's alright.....

A posting to the van mailing list may/96 notes the existence of a lost verse to this song, here transcribed from a performance on the van morrison in ireland concert video:

There's a rose pressed inside a bible
That she reads on the balcony
She's sweet in slumber and Ive got her number
For the beginning of the century.
Toolin' down the highway doing 79,
I'm a twin-pipe papa and I'm feeling fine...

You and your wife's song is so pretty. I remember when that song came out. Tupelo honey..she must be very sweet indeed!

I'm sorry to hear of the illness of your sister-in-law. It's not easy to watch those we love go through such pain. My father-in-law and sister-in-law have been battling it for a couple of years now, and it's not easy. There were times when we prepared for the worst and wish with all our hearts. we could take their pain away.

I will keep all of you in my prayers. :7207:

Not West Virginia, but I'll be going "home"....

Post by PapaMouse »

...to the (foothills of) the Blue Ridge Mountains. There's a "reunion" of anyone who ever graduated from my high school in Morganton, NC. The school closed in 1973, so the youngest people there will be in their mid-50s. (I think they said there would be someone from the class of '49 at the reunion.)

So, in honor of this gathering, I thought I'd post John Denver's "Take Me Home, Country Roads".

Almost heaven, West Virginia.
Blue Ridge Mountains,
Shenandoah River -
Life is old there,
Older than the trees,
Younger than the mountains,
Growin' like a breeze.

Country Roads, take me home
To the place I belong:
West Virginia, mountain mama.
Take me home, country roads.

All my memories gathered round her.
Miner's lady, stranger to blue water.
Dark and dusty, painted on the sky.
Misty taste of moonshine.
Teardrops in my eye.

Country Roads, take me home
To the place I belong.
West Virginia, mountain mama.
Take me home, country roads.

I hear her voice
In the mornin' hour, she calls me.
The radio reminds me of my home far away.
Drivin' down the road I get a feelin'
That I should have been home yesterday, yesterday.

Country Roads, take me home
To the place I belong.
West Virginia, mountain mama.
Take me home, country roads.

Country Roads, take me home
To the place I belong.
West Virginia, mountain mama.
Take me home, country roads.
Take me home, now country roads.
Take me home, now country roads.

 See you on the flip side.
Lord, you have filled my cup so full,
How can I fear tomorrow?
