You gonna post some more lyrics for us then?

Whoops..now I'm the sorry one...

Post by jodlyn »

Ummm...

How about:

When the weather's better and the rails unfreeze
and the wind don't whistle 'round my knees
I'll put on my weddin' suit and catch the evening train
I'll be home before the milk's upon the door
I'm not bad. I'm just drawn that way!

That's "Gasoline Alley" by Rod Stewart...

...dang, that was a good one, girl. I really had to think to come up with that one! Try this one...

Don't think I'm being funny when I say
You got just what you deserve
I can't help feeling you found out today
You thought you were too good you had a lot of nerve
Won't say I'm sorry for the things I said
I'm glad he packed up to go
You kept on bragging he was yours instead
Found you don't know everything there is to know
Toolin' down the highway doing 79,
I'm a twin-pipe papa and I'm feeling fine...

Laugh, Laugh by the Beau Brummels...

Post by jodlyn »

It took me forever until I started singing the chorus...You had me going for a bit.

Laugh, laugh, I thought I'd die
It seemed so funny to me
Laugh, laugh you met a guy who taught you how it feels to be
Lonely, oh so lonely

Now I'm singing it over and over again.
:)

Okay..this one should be easy for you. I'm listening to it right now.

And when the music plays
And when the words are
Touched with sorrow
When the music plays
I hear the sound
I had to follow
I'm not bad. I'm just drawn that way!

...one of my all-time favorites. "Your Wildest Dream" by The Moody Blues. That's such a great song...of course, everything they do is great.

ok...ironically here's one I'm listening to right now...

And all the girls walk by
Dressed up for each other
And the boys do the boogie-woogie
On the corner of the street

And the people, passin' by
Stare in wild wonder
And the inside juke-box
Roars out just like thunder
Toolin' down the highway doing 79,
I'm a twin-pipe papa and I'm feeling fine...

Wild Night - Van Morrison

Post by fiona »

Aaaah yes tmac. "Tupelo Honey" graces my shelves and gets its airing pretty regularly. :D

Let's see how you do with this one.....

The summer sun is fading as the year grows old
And darker days are drawing near...
The winter winds will be much colder
Now you're not here.
I'm not going to let my history pull me down and hold me back, you see.

That's "Forever Autunn" by Justin Hayward...

...the best song from Jeff Wayne's "War of the Worlds" musical. I've had that album set for years and finally bought the CD a couple of years ago. I really love the way the story was told in music.

I dedicated that particular song to my then-future wife back when we were dating. It's still a special song to us :) .

more lyrics...

Light the candle, put the lock upon the door
You have sent the maid home early like a thousand times before
Like the castle in his corner in a medieval game,
I foresee terrible trouble, and I stay here just the same
Toolin' down the highway doing 79,
I'm a twin-pipe papa and I'm feeling fine...

Dirty Work - Steel Dan

Post by fiona »

Another of my fave groups.

Van Morrison wrote so many great songs didn't he?

I bought The War of the Worlds when it came out on LP and then got the CD and it has been in my Top 40 ever since. Jeff Wayne is so talented and his version of "Spartacus" is absolutely brill and a great listen too.

Here's more lyrics:

On a morning from a Bogart movie
In a country where they turn back time
You go strolling through the crowd like Peter Lorre
Contemplating a crime
I'm not going to let my history pull me down and hold me back, you see.

That's "The Year of the Cat" by Al Stewart...

...haven't heard that in a while.

How about this:

Well, I heard some people talkin' just the other day
And they said you were gonna put me on a shelf
But let me tell you I got some news for you
And you'll soon find out it's true
And then you'll have to eat your lunch all by yourself
Toolin' down the highway doing 79,
I'm a twin-pipe papa and I'm feeling fine...

Already Gone - The Eagles

Post by PapaMouse »

"For the record, we never broke up. We just took a 14 year vacation."

Try this one:

I thought the sun rose in your eyes
And the moon and stars were the gifts you gave
To the dark and the empty skies my love
To the dark and the empty skies.
Lord, you have filled my cup so full,
How can I fear tomorrow?

The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face - Robert Flack

Post by fiona »

Good to see you PapaMouse.

Here's more....

Neon signs a flashin'
Taxi cabs and busses passin' through the night
The distant moanin' of a train
Seems to play a sad refrain to the night
I'm not going to let my history pull me down and hold me back, you see.

Rainy Night in Georgia by Brook Benton

Post by tmac396 »

Good song. Here's one of my wife's favorites...

Kiss me each morning for a million years
Hold me each evening by your side
Tell me you love me for a million years,
Toolin' down the highway doing 79,
I'm a twin-pipe papa and I'm feeling fine...

Then You Can Tell Me Goodbye

Post by fiona »

Your wife has good taste tmac.

Try these ones.....

There's a sign on the wall but she wants to be sure
'Cause you know sometimes words have two meanings.
In a tree by the brook, there's a songbird who sings,
Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven.
I'm not going to let my history pull me down and hold me back, you see.

That's "Stairway to Heaven" by Led Zeppelin...

Post by tmac396 »

...that drove me INSANE for a while because I KNEW that song but I couldn't place it. Then...DUH!

More lyrics....

Well, you're built like a car
You got a hubcap diamond star halo
You're built like a car, oh yeah
Well, you're an untamed youth
That's the truth, with your cloak full of eagles
You're dirty, sweet and you're my girl
Toolin' down the highway doing 79,
I'm a twin-pipe papa and I'm feeling fine...

OMG that's "Bang a Gong" by T-Rex

Post by fiona »

I just adored them in the 70s. I bought their albums and swooned over Marc Bolan and then he had that tragic accident.

Let's see how you get on with these....

Well you wore out your welcome with random precision
Rode on the steel breeze
Come on you raver, you seer of visions
Come on you painter. you piper, you prisoner
I'm not going to let my history pull me down and hold me back, you see.
