Nowhere to Run - Martha Reeves and the Vandellas

Post by fiona »

Good one. :17091:

Try these:

Oh, your friends with their fancy persuasion
Don't admit that it's part of a scheme.
But I can't help but have my suspicions
'Cause I ain't quite as dumb as I seem.
I'm not going to let my history pull me down and hold me back, you see.

Thet's "How Long" by Ace...

Post by tmac396 »

I came up with the song, but it took me forever to come up with the band's name...another good one :).

Try this one on for size...

Pretty little one
How has it all begun?
They're teaching you how to walk
But you're already on the run
Little one-
What you gonna do?
Little one-
Honey, it's all up to you
Toolin' down the highway doing 79,
I'm a twin-pipe papa and I'm feeling fine...

I must tell you that Paul Carrack, who was the lead singer and songwriter, is one of my heroes. I've met him on a couple of occasions and both times we talked about Michael McDonald rather than his own music. He seems just to be touring Britain and Europe at the moment but I want him to tour the US, preferably when I'm there, as he has a lot of fans there who would love to see him.
I'm not going to let my history pull me down and hold me back, you see.

REO Speedwagon - Take It on the Run

Post by fiona »

Just because they weren't big in the UK!!

Here's more for the forces on here to be reckoned with....

I dreamed I saw the bombers
Riding shotgun in the sky
Turning into butterflies above our nation
I'm not going to let my history pull me down and hold me back, you see.

Woodstock - Crosby Stills Nash and Young

Great song. Also recorded by Joni Mitchell and by James Taylor.

Try this one:

People movin' out. People movin' in.
(Why?)
Because of the color of their skin.
Lord, you have filled my cup so full,
How can I fear tomorrow?

I'm tempted to tell you that it was used in Sister Act 2, but that might add to the confusion.

Yay!!!!!! :8827: :17091:

Here you go.....

I can tell the way you hang your head
You are alone now, and you're afraid
Through your tears you look around
But there's no peace of mind to be found
I'm not going to let my history pull me down and hold me back, you see.

...I love those guys!

How about:

Baby's into running around
Hanging with the crowd
Putting your business in the street talking out loud
Saying you bought her this and that
And how much you done spent
Toolin' down the highway doing 79,
I'm a twin-pipe papa and I'm feeling fine...

I just taped that from my 45s that the other day. :o

Here's some more....

I got the rockin' pneumonia,
I need a shot of rhythm and blues.
I think I'm rollin' arthiritis
sittin' down by the rhythm review.
I'm not going to let my history pull me down and hold me back, you see.

You want to go back, eh? Here's one:

You passed me by one sunny day
Flashed those big brown eyes my way
And oo I wanted you forever more
Now I'm not one that gets around
I swear my feet stuck to the ground
And though I never did meet you before
Toolin' down the highway doing 79,
I'm a twin-pipe papa and I'm feeling fine...

Hello Mary Lou - Ricky Nelson

Post by fiona »

I like them old, I like them not so old and I like them up until the end of the eighties, when I start to get a lot more choosy with my preferences. :P

I did even tell you on the General Forum that I had some Buddy Holly 45s and The Crickets ones too if you were interested. :)

Here's a few more to try....

Always in a hurry
I never stop to worry
Don't you see the time flashing by
Honey got no money
I'm all sizes and sevens and nines
I'm not going to let my history pull me down and hold me back, you see.

Cool, those old Brunswick and Coral 45's are getting tough to find!

More lyrics...

Where did your long hair go
Where is the girl I used to know
How could you lose that happy glow
Toolin' down the highway doing 79,
I'm a twin-pipe papa and I'm feeling fine...
