And now for something completely different, let's try 13 GROUPS that have changed lead singers. (If you can think of them, name the lead singers.)

1. Jay and the Americans (John "J.T." Traynor, "Jay" Black)

Oddly, "Jay" Black's first name was actually David. But rather than change the name of the group to "David and the Americans", they just started calling him "Jay". He even had a solo release ("What Would My Mary Say?") as Jay Black.

3. The Crickets (Buddy Holly, David Box, Sonny Curtis)

David Box was only briefly the lead singer for The Crickets, then began a solo career. In 1964, he was killed in the crash of a charter plane, while on tour. Sonny Curtis had been a member of The Crickets early in their career, and came back as lead singer in 1962. He wrote a song that was a mild success for The Crickets, but was later a big hit for The Bobby Fuller Four: "I Fought the Law".

5. Deep Purple (Rod Evans, Ian Gillan, David Coverdale, Ian Gillan, Joe Lynn Turner, Ian Gillan)

On a side note, drummer Ian Paice and keyboardist John Lord were the only original members of Deep Purple who never left the band. Lord retired in 2002, leaving Paice as the only remaining original.

7. The Four Tops (Levi Stubbs, Theo Peoples, Spike Deleon)

The Four Tops barely qualifies for this category, since they didn't have a lineup change at all for 44 years. :!: The group consisted of Stubbs, Abdul "Duke" Fakir, Obie Benson, and Lawrence Payton. In 1997, after Payton died of liver cancer, the other three continued as a trio called The Tops. They then recruited Theo Peoples (formerly of The Temptations) to fill Payton's spot. But when Stubbs became ill with cancer, Peoples took over as lead singer. In 2005, Benson died of lung cancer, and was replaced by Roquel Payton (real name: Lawrence Payton, jr.). Peoples left the group, and was replaced by Deleon. Stubbs died of his cancer in 2008, leaving Fakir as the last surviving member of the original group.

9. The Supremes (Diana Ross, Jean Terrell, Scherrie Payne)

The Supremes were formed as The Primettes, a female version of a group called The Primes. Half of The Primes went on to form The Temptations (with members of The Distants). The Primettes' name was changed to The Supremes when they signed with Motown. In 1967, Berry Gordy changed the name to Diana Ross & the Supremes. When Ross left, the name reverted to The Supremes.
