Re: 13 non-instrumental songs featuring a trumpet solo

Cool topic and hopefully, we'll be up to the task for it. :)

1. Penny Lane - The Beatles (David Mason, piccolo trumpet)
2. Does Anyone Really Know What Time It is - Chicago (Lee Loughnane, trumpet)

13 non-instrumental songs featuring a trumpet solo

3. When Time Was All We Had - Richard Carpenter (Herb Alpert, flugelhorn)

The Carpenters had recorded on A&M Records, and so were familiar to Herb. This song is off the 1987 Time album, and was written by Richard as a tribute to his late sister Karen.

4. Ring of Fire - Johnny Cash (Jack Hale Jr, and Bob Lewin).

There's controversy relating to this song. Supposedly co-written by Cash and June Carter before their marriage and was about how they both fell in love. But, Johnny Cash's first wife, Vivian, claimed Cash only added Carter because "she needed the money!" Most who knew Carter and Cash said Vivian claimed this because she was bitter about their divorce and jealous of June Carter becoming Cash's long time love.

The background Marachi style trumpets were played by Hale Jr. and Lewin. They called themselves "The Tennessee Trumpets".

Greg Adams is a founding member of the band Tower of Power, whose horn section has backed other artists, including (obviously) HL&N.

6. Leader of the Band - Dan Fogelberg (No mention on Wikipedia as to who played the trumpet.)

According to Wikipedia, the song ends with the UCLA marching band playing "Washington Post March", but I don't hear it.

All of the vocals done by The Cuff Links were provided by Ron Dante, who was also the lead singer for The Archies. He also was a member of The Detergents ("Leader of the Laundromat"), The Chan Clan, and Dante's Inferno. From 1973 to 1981, he was Barry Manilow's record producer, and often sang backup on Manilow's records, most notably "Mandy".

11. Tracy - The Cuff Links
12. Tubthumping - Chumbawumba

This was a massive hit over here in the UK in 1997 and basically "Tubthumping" is when people stand on their soapbox to give their opinion on the state of either the country, the world or just a specific subject. There is a trumpet solo about halfway through.

And now I get to do another dozen+. How about an instrumental song that includes a few words, preferably spoken (not sung)? This will be a bit harder, but I think we can do it! I'll start with one of the most obvious:

1. Tequila - The Champs

13 instrumental songs with words.

1. Tequila - The Champs
2. Melody for an Unknown Girl - Paul Revere and the Raiders

"Sometimes it's hard to find the right words, even when they're written in you heart. Most songs have words. But this song is for someone I don't even know yet. So there are no words. Just a melody. For a girl."
Beautiful sax solo by Mark Lindsay.
