Grealy, Siobhan

Flautist who has worked with the BBC Symphony, the English Chamber Orchestra, the English Sinfonia, the Erard Ensemble, the London Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic, and the Wakeford Ensemble.

On 18th February 2011, the Erard Ensemble, in conjunction with the Keswick Music Society, gave a recital that included the “Clarinet Quintet, K. 581” of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, “Introduction et Allegro” by Maurice Ravel, “Prelude, Marine et Chanson” by Joseph Guy Marie Ropartz, and “Sonate” by Claude Debussy.

Siobhan and harpist Lucy Wakeford performed Johann Sebastian Bach’s “Sonata for Flute and Harp, BWV 1035” at the Semley Music Festival on 7th August 2004.

In March 2005, the Wakeford Ensemble brought the curtain down on the Alnwick Music Society’s season with a program that comprised “Eternity’s Sunrise” by Howard Skempton, “Introduction and Allegro” by Maurice Ravel, “Quintet for Clarinet and Strings, Op. 115” by Johannes Brahms, “Silver Moon” by Lynne Plowman, and “Tombeau in Memoriam Igor Stravinsky” by Harrison Birtwistle.

They offered up Johann Sebastian Bach’s “Sonata in E, BWV 1035”, Alphonse Hasselmans’ “La Source”, Astor Piazzolla’s “Histoires du Tango”, Maurice Ravel’s “Sonate”, Toru Takemitsu’s “And then I knew ‘twas wind”, and Georg Philipp Telemann’s “Trio Sonata” on 12th February 2006.

On 29th October 2007, they appeared in the Multi-Faith Centre at Derby University where they interpreted William Alwyn’s “Naiades”, Arnold Bax’s “Elegiac Trio”, Claude Debussy’s “Sonata”, Toru Takemitsu’s “And then I knew ‘twas wind”, and George Philipp Telemann’s “Trio Sonata in F major”.

Siobhan was the featured soloist at the North Wall Arts Centre in Oxford on 8th October 2008 when the English Sinfonia performed “Concerto No. 1 for Flute and String Orchestra” by Malcolm Arnold, “Eine Kleine Nachtmusik” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, “Prelude and Fugue” by Benjamin Britten, and the serenades for strings by Antonin Dvorak and Sir Edward Elgar.

On 12th September 2009, she helped give the world premiere of Helmut Hodl’s “An Haydn” at the Eisenstadt Haydn Festival in Austria.

The LSO presented the “Flute Concerto” of Carl Nielsen, “The Mermaid” by Alexander von Zemlinsky, and “The Miraculous Mandarin—Suite” by Bela Bartok at the Barbican on 9th November 2011.

On 5th December 2012, they were back at the Barbican for The Queen’s Medal for Music Gala Concert which featured the world premiere of Sir Peter Maxwell Davies’ “Fanfare:  Her Majesty’s Welcome”.

She later left London to move to Scotland with her family.

In the field of music education, Siobhan has taught master classes and been active with Flutewise, an outreach program that works specifically—although not exclusively—with students aged eight to eighteen.
