Sharp Dressed Man - ZZ Top

Post by PapaMouse »

The title came from the credits for a movie. (They don't remember which movie it was, though.) And then the lyrics and tune came after that.

"And every girl crazy 'bout a Sharp Dressed Man."

I wonder if the actor who played the "sharp-dressed man" even has any idea what his credit listing started?

Tube Snake Boogie another by ZZ Top

Sharp Dressed Man is my favorite video from these guys. I like their beards and trenchcoats, but their twirling of the guitars is what caught my eye. I wonder if they've ever shaved their beards.

Hi Papa. :1026:
I think it's funny that the only one (in ZZ Top) who doesn't have a beard is Frank Beard. Have you ever seen Back To the Future, Part 2? ZZ Top are in it, as musicians at the square dance. And they twirl their guitars. :D

Talking of ZZ Top, I'm quite a sucker for "Blue Jeans Blues". :D

Would You Go With Me by Josh Turner....

Post by jodlyn »

To Fee: I like just about all their songs. I've been a ZZ Top fan from way back.

To Papa: I've often wondered if that's what they intended with his name being what it is. Kind of a funny play on the beards.

Btw..the twirling guitars is one of the best parts of their video...Well, aside from the great cars. :)

You Were On My Mind - We Five

Post by PapaMouse »

This was a remake of Ian and Sylvia's song. It hit #1 for We Five on two out of three US charts. They were nominated for a Grammy as Best New Artist of the Year for 1965, but lost to some British group called The Beatles.

We Five were saved from being One Hit Wonders by their #31 hit "Let's Get Together" (which was covered by - and a bigger hit for - The Youngbloods, who called it "Get Together"

Zap City by The Cult

Post by fiona »

I used to have one of this lot's CDs but it kind of disappeared a few years ago.

I never really knew much about them or their chart successes but I think they did OK for themselves for a while.

Angel by Sarah McLachlan...

Post by jodlyn »

It's a bit of a sad song, but it's my absolute favorites. It was sister's favorite also, and every time I hear it, I think of her. It's been years since she passed away, but it is like she is still here. I'm glad to know love and life goes on when we leave this world.

Banana Boat Song, The - The Tarriers

Post by PapaMouse »

Later recorded by (and a much bigger hit for) Harry Belafonte. One thing of interest about The Tarriers is that the trio included in their membership a young man who later made a name for himself as an actor: Alan Arkin.

Banana Boat song. Isn't that the one where he goes Day-O, Day Ooooooo..It's a fun song. I believe it was on "Beetlejuice" also.

It would be nice to be cruising down the river with no worries.

Dance (While the Music Still Goes On) - ABBA

Post by PapaMouse »

Of course, if you want to type the band's name correctly, you have to figure out how to turn the first "B" so it faces the other way. :17418:

Hiya, jody :5086: . :1013:

Yes, "The Banana Boat Song" is the one that Mr Belefonte sang "Daaaaay-o. Da-ay-ay-o. Daylight come and me wanna go home."

And a Happy Valentine's Day to you and yours. Seems a good day to dance (while the music still goes on). :8942:
