For a good, kind friend who passed away this weekend...

Post by jodlyn »

He was such a nice man. He would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it, and he would do anything for you. Funny and kind, he and his wife were such good friends. He loved our little family and watched out for us.

I just know he's up there in heaven making sure it's all ready for the rest of us. I can just seen those angels. He's making them work hard now...He used to be a carpenter, so if you hear a lot of hammering coming from the skies, then you'll know who it is..

Sometimes late at night
I lie awake and watch her sleeping
Shes lost in peaceful dreams
So I turn out the lights and lay there in the dark
And the thought crosses my mind
If I never wake up in the morning
Would she ever doubt the way I feel
About her in my heart

(chorus)

If tomorrow never comes
Will she know how much I loved her
Did I try in every way to show her every day
That shes my only one
And if my time on earth were through
And she must face the world without me
Is the love I gave her in the past
Gonna be enough to last
If tomorrow never comes
cause Ive lost loved ones in my life
Who never knew how much I loved them
Now I live with the regret
That my true feelings for them never were revealed
So I made a promise to myself
To say each day how much she means to me
And avoid that circumstance
Where theres no second chance to tell her how I feel

*chorus*

So tell that someone that you love
Just what youre thinking of
If tomorrow never comes
I'm not bad. I'm just drawn that way!

If you ever wondered...

Post by fiona »

...where my sig line comes, from here it is. I regard it as my theme song and pretty much reckon it sums up everything about me.

Wishing Well - Anastacia

What do you think of me?
And who do you want me to be?
Not gonna let my history
Pull me down and hold me back, ya see
I've learned to live my life
One minute at a time
Sometimes the things you lose
Are exactly what you will find

(dreams unfold and you cast a spell)
Everybody shines in the wishing well
Yeah yeah yeah
Close your eyes and you will see
Everybody's free in the wishing well
(yeah yeah yeah yeah)
Wishing well

Why do you try to hide
Behind the truth that your heart denies?
The answer lies so deep inside
Baby spread your wings, it's time to fly
Gotta learn to live your life
One minute at a time
Sometimes the road you choose
Has the highest hills to climb

(dreams unfold and you cast a spell)
Everybody shines in the wishing well
Yeah yeah yeah
Close your eyes and you will see
Everybody's free in the wishing well
(yeah yeah yeah yeah)
I'm not going to let my history pull me down and hold me back, you see.

Here's one we all can relate to...Stand

Post by jodlyn »

By Rascal Flatts

You feel like a candle in a hurricane
Just like a picture with a broken frame
Alone and helpless
Like you've lost your fight
But you'll be alright

Chorus:
Cause when push comes to shove
You taste what you're made of
You might bend, till you break
Cause its all you can take
On your knees you look up
Decide you've had enough
You get mad you get strong
Wipe your hands shake it off
Then you Stand, Then you stand

Life's like a novel
With the end ripped out
The edge of a canyon
With only one way down
Take what you're given before its gone
Start holding on, keep holding on
Repeat Chorus
Everytime you get up
And get back in the race
One more small piece of you
Starts to fall into place
Ooohhh

Cause when push comes to shove
You taste what you're made of
You might bend, till you break
Cause its all you can take
On your knees you look up
Decide you've had enough
You get mad you get strong
Wipe your hands shake it off
Then you Stand, Then you stand
I'm not bad. I'm just drawn that way!

Moments by Emerson Drive...

Post by jodlyn »

This is such a gorgeous song. I love how it ends!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JzriEXPJ1-k

I was coming to the end of a long long walk
When a man crawled out of a cardboard box
Under the E. Street Bridge
Followed me on to it
I went out halfway across
With that homeless shadow tagging along
So I dug for some change
Wouldn't need it anyway
He took it lookin' just a bit ashamed
He said, You know, I haven't always been this way

I've had my moments, days in the sun
Moments I was second to none
Moments when I knew I did what I thought I couldn't do
Like that plane ride coming home from the war
That summer my son was born
And memories like a coat so warm
A cold wind can't get through
Lookin' at me now you might not know it
But I've had my moments

I stood there tryin' to find my nerve
Wondering if a single soul on Earth
Would care at all
Miss me when I'm gone
That old man just kept hanging around
Lookin' at me, lookin' down
I think he recognized
That look in my eyes
Standing with him there I felt ashamed
I said, You know, I haven't always felt this way

I've had my moments, days in the sun
Moments I was second to none
Moments when I knew I did what I thought I couldn't do
Like the day I walked away from the wine
For a woman who became my wife
And a love that, when it was right,
Could always see me through
Lookin' at me now you might not know it
But I've had my moments

I know somewhere 'round a trashcan fire tonight
That old man tells his story one more time
He says

I've had my moments, days in the sun
Moments I was second to none
Moments when I knew I did what I thought I couldn't do
Like that cool night on the E. Street Bridge
When a young man almost ended it
I was right there, wasn't scared a bit
And I helped to pull him through
Lookin' at me now you might not know it
Oh, lookin' at me now you might not know it
But I've had my moments
I'm not bad. I'm just drawn that way!

Seven Tears by Goombay Dance Band

Post by fiona »

I never really liked this song as it was too Europop for me, but it stayed at the top of the UK charts for 3 weeks so I guess it had something. I looked at the lyrics when I was researching it to enter onto the site though and I thought they were lovely. Four thousand miles is how far I travel (plus another 500) to get back to St. Louis.:)

Seven tears have flown into the river
Seven tears are running to the sea
If one day they reach some distant water
Then you'll know it's sent with love from me

Here I stand, head in hand
Lonely, like a stranger on the shore
I can't stand this feeling anymore
Day by day, this world’s all grey
And if dreams were eagles I would fly
But they ain't and that's the reason why

Seven tears have flown into the river
Seven tears are running to the sea
If one day they reach some distant water
Then you'll know it's sent with love from me

Oh my darling oh my pretty lady
Golden star that leads to paradise
Like a river's running to the ocean
I'll come back to you four thousand miles

Here I stand, head in hand
Lonely, like a stranger on the shore
I can't stand this feeling anymore
Day by day, this world’s all grey
And if dreams were eagles I would fly
But they ain't and that's the reason why

Seven tears have flown into the river
Seven tears are running to the sea
If one day they reach some distant waters
Then you'll know it's sent with love from me
Oh my darling oh my pretty lady
Golden star that leads to paradise
Like a river's running to the ocean
I'll come back to you four thousand miles
Seven tears have flown into the river
Seven tears are running to the sea
If one day they reach some distant waters
Then you'll know it's sent with love from me
Oh my darling oh my pretty lady
Golden star that leads to paradise
Like a river's running to the ocean
I'll come back to you four thousand miles
I'm not going to let my history pull me down and hold me back, you see.

Angel Standing By with Jewel

Post by jodlyn »

All through the night I'll be watching over you
And all through the night I'll be standing over you
And through bad dreams I'll be right there baby
telling you everything's going to be alright
When you cry I'll be there baby
telling you were never nothing less than beautiful
So don't you worry
I'm you Angel standing by
I'm not bad. I'm just drawn that way!

Thank You for Being a Friend - Andrew Gold

Post by fiona »

Thank you for being a friend
Traveled down a road and back again
Your heart is true, you're a pal and a confidant

I'm not ashamed to say
I hope it always will stay this way
My hat is off, won't you stand up and take a bow

And if you threw a party
Invited everyone you knew
You would see the biggest gift would be from me
And the card attached would say
Thank you for being a friend
Thank you for being a friend
Thank you for being a friend
Thank you for being a friend

If it's a car you lack
I'd surely buy you a Cadillac
Whatever you need any time of the day or night

I'm not ashamed to say
I hope it always will stay this way
My hat is off, won't you stand up and take a bow

And when we both get older
With walking canes and hair of gray
Have no fear even though it's hard to hear
I will stand real close and say
Thank you for being a friend
Thank you for being a friend
Thank you for being a friend
Thank you for being a friend

And when we die
And float away
Into the night
The milky way
You'll hear me call
As we ascend
I'll say your name
Then once again

Thank you for being a friend
I'm not going to let my history pull me down and hold me back, you see.

Long Trip Alone by Dierks Bentley..

Post by jodlyn »

It's a long trip alone over sand and stone
That lie along the road that we all must travel down

So maybe you could walk with me a while
And maybe I could rest beneath your smile
Everybody stumbles sometimes and needs a hand to hold
'Cause it's a long trip alone

It's a short piece of time but just enough to find
A little peace of mind under the sun somewhere

So maybe you could walk with me a while
And maybe I could rest beneath your smile
You know we can't afford to let one moment pass us by
'Cause it's a short piece of time

And I don't know where I'd be without you here
'Cause I'm not really me without you there

Yea Yeah
Hallelujah hallelujah oh

So maybe you could walk with me a while
Maybe I could rest beneath your smile
Everybody stumbles sometimes and needs a hand to hold

So maybe you could walk with me a while
Maybe I could rest beneath your smile
Maybe I could feel you right beside me 'til I'm home
'Cause it's a long trip alone
I'm not bad. I'm just drawn that way!

One of my favorites from Nanci Griffith...

Post by tmac396 »

Listen To The Radio
Words & Music By Nanci Griffith
© 1989 Irving Music Inc. and Ponder Heart Music (BMI)

I am leaving Mississippi in the evening rain
These Delta towns wear satin gowns
in a high beamed frame
Loretta Lynn guides my hands through the radio
Where would I be in times like these
without the songs Loretta wrote?

Chorus:
When you can't find a friend
you've still got the radio
When you can't find a friend
you've still got the radio
Radio . . . listen to the radio
Radio . . . listen to the radio

I left a handsome two stepped good ole boy in Tennessee
Now, he's sittin' on the sofa, lookin' for his supper,
wonderin' what's become of me
I've got a double-o-eighteen Martin guitar in the
back seat of the car
Hey, I'm leaving Mississippi . . .
With the radio on

(Repeat chorus)

There's a moon across the border in the Louisiana sky
I smell the Pontchartrain, I hear Silver Wings
then, away Merle Haggard flies
That good ole boy will find a Band of Gold
on the stereo
Hey, then my Mama's gonna call and say,
"Where's she gone?"
He'll say, "Down the road with the radio on."

I'll have to say that Nanci Griffith is one of my very favorite singer/songwriters. She's a great storyteller.
Toolin' down the highway doing 79,
I'm a twin-pipe papa and I'm feeling fine...

This is so cute, I had to post it...Ticks by Brad Paisley...

Post by jodlyn »

Even Kris laughed at the lyrics this morning and had me pull over on our way to school just so she could hear the whole thing.. :)

Everytime you take a sip
In this smokey atmosphere
You press that bottle to your lips
And I wish I was your beer

And in the small there of your back
Your jeans are playing peekaboo
I'd like to see the other half
Of your butterfly tattoo

Hey that gives me an idea
Let's get out of this bar
Drive out into the country
And find a place to park

Cause I'd like to see you
Out in the moonlight
I'd like to kiss you
Way back in the sticks
I'd like to walk you
through a field of wild flowers
I'd like to check you for ticks

I know the perfect little path
Out in these woods I used to hunt
Don't worry babe, I've got your back
And I've also got your front

I'd hate to waste a night like this
I'll keep you safe, you wait and see
The only thing allowed to crawl all over you
When we get there, is me

You know every guy in here tonight
Would like to take you home
But I've got way more class than them, baby
what I want

Is I'd like to see you out in the moonlight
I'd like to kiss you
way back in the sticks
I'd like to walk you
through a field of wild flowers
And I'd like to check you for ticks

Now whoo hoo
You never know where one might be
And ooh ohhh
There's lots of places that's hard to reach
I gotcha

I'd like to see you out in the moonlight
I'd like to kiss you baby
way back in the sticks
I'd like to walk you
through a field of wild flowers
And I'd like to check you for ticks
Oh, I'd sure like to check you for ticks
Come on!
I'm not bad. I'm just drawn that way!

Thank God for good directions and turnip greens...

Post by jodlyn »

Billy Currington

"Good Directions"

I was sittin' there sellin' turnips on a flatbed truck
Crunchin' on a pork rind when she pulled up
She had to be thinkin' "This is where the rednecks come from"
She had Hollywood written on her license plate
She was lost and lookin' for the interstate
Needin' directions and I was the man for the job

[Chorus]
I told her way up yonder past the caution light
There's a little country store with an old Coke sign
You gotta stop in and ask Miss Bell for some of her sweet tea
Then a left will take you to the interstate
But a right will bring you right back here to me

I was sittin' there thinkin' 'bout her pretty face
Kickin' myself for not catchin' her name
I threw my hat and thought, "You fool, that could've been love"
I knew my old Ford couldn't run her down
She probably didn't like me anyhow
So I watched her disappear in a cloud of dust.

[Chorus]
I told her way up yonder past the caution light
There's a little country store with an old Coke sign
You gotta stop in and ask Miss Bell for some of her sweet tea
Then a left will take you to the interstate
But a right will bring you right back here to me

Is this Georgia heat playin' tricks on me
Or am I really seein' what I think I see
The woman of my dreams comin' back to me

She went way up yonder past the caution light
Don't know why, but somethin' felt right
When she stopped in and asked Miss Bell for some of her sweet tea
Mama gave her a big 'ol glass and sent her right back here to me

Thank God for good directions:and turnip greens
I'm not bad. I'm just drawn that way!

JAN AND DEAN lyrics - "Surf City
Written by Brian Wilson and Jan Berry

Two girls for every boy

I bought a '30 Ford wagon and we call it a woody
(Surf City, here we come)
You know it's not very cherry, it's an oldie but a goody
(Surf City, here we come)
Well, it ain't got a back seat or a rear window
But it still gets me where I wanna go

And we're goin' to Surf City, 'cause it's two to one
You know we're goin' to Surf City, gonna have some fun
Ya, we're goin' to Surf City, 'cause it's two to one
You know we're goin' to Surf City, gonna have some fun, now
Two girls for every boy

You see they never roll the streets up 'cause there's always somethin' goin'
(Surf City, here we come)
You know they're either out surfin' or they got a party growin'
(Surf City, here we come)
Well, with two swingin' honeys for every guy
And all you gotta do is just wink your eye

Ya, we're goin' to Surf City, 'cause it's two to one
You know we're goin' to Surf City, gonna have some fun
Ya, we're goin' to Surf City, 'cause it's two to one
Ya, we're goin' to Surf City, gonna have some fun, now
Two girls for every boy

And if my woody breaks down on me somewhere on the surf route
(Surf City, here we come)
I'll strap my board to my back and hitch a ride in my wetsuit
(Surf City, here we come)
And when I get to Surf City I'll be shootin' the curl
And checkin' out the parties for a surfer girl

And we're goin' to Surf City, 'cause it's two to one
You know we're goin' to Surf City, gonna have some fun
Ya, we're goin' to Surf City, 'cause it's two to one
Ya, we're goin' to Surf City, gonna have some fun, now
Two girls for every
Two girls for every boy
Toolin' down the highway doing 79,
I'm a twin-pipe papa and I'm feeling fine...

Somebody Special - Fish

She's got a photograph of David Bowie
In a victorian hand made frame
Signed backstage by a roadie in his name
She's got Hemingway in her bedside table
And a pistol under a pillow beside her head
The bullets round her neck
She wants to wear suits
A cocktail waitress smokes gauloises blondes
She's been taking tips from tables for too long
She drinks frozen stolichnaya
She likes powders from peru
She don't like no one to tell her what to do

Chorus
She wants to be somebody, be somebody, be somebody, somebody special
She wants to be somebody, be somebody, be somebody, somebody special
She wants to wear suits

She's got a nasty reputation as a cruel dude
She likes japanese movies, she likes chinese food
She's got handmade patent leather shoes riding on her feet
She knows the lifestyle that she wants and she's willing to compete

Chorus

She put her mind to the classroom but outside
She learned more from giving head
She gave her innocence to someone that she once considered a close friend
She gave her hand to the quarterback on loan to the local football team
He gave his world as security, his heart as deposit on the dream
But, she wants to wear suits

Chorus

She's got a wedding ring
That's cartier as far as you can tell
She threw it down the local wishing well
She'd lost it in the kitchen sink
Or in a desert motel room
The insurance claim just couldn't come too soon

She wants to be somebody, be somebody, be somebody, somebody special
She wants to be somebody, be somebody, be somebody, somebody special
She's somebody special
Do you want to be somebody special
Could you be somebody special
Somebody special

(Get Your Kicks on) Route 66

Post by tmac396 »

Route 66

(Word & Lyrics by Bobby Troup)

If you ever plan to motor west,
travel my way, take the highway that is best.
Get your kicks on Route sixty-six.

It winds from Chicago to LA,
more than two thousand miles all the way.
Get your kicks on Route sixty-six.

Now you go through Saint Looey
Joplin, Missouri,
and Oklahoma City is mighty pretty.
You see Amarillo,
Gallup, New Mexico,
Flagstaff, Arizona.
Don't forget Winona,
Kingman, Barstow, San Bernandino.

Won't you get hip to this timely tip:
when you make that California trip
Get your kicks on Route sixty-six.

Won't you get hip to this timely tip:
when you make that California trip
Get your kicks on Route sixty-six.

Been listening to "Asleep at the Wheel Live on Route 66" over the weekend.
Toolin' down the highway doing 79,
I'm a twin-pipe papa and I'm feeling fine...

Honky Tonk Badonkadonk by Trace Atkins...

Post by jodlyn »

Turn it up some
Alright boys, this is her favorite song
You know that right
So, if we play it good and loud
She might get up and dance again
Ooh, she put her beer down
Here she comes
Here she comes
Left left left right left
Whoo

Husslers shootin' eightball
Throwin' darts at the wall
Feelin' damn near 10 ft. tall
Here she comes, Lord help us all
Ol' T.W.'s girlfriend done slapped him outta his chair
Poor ole boy, it ain't his fault
It's so hard not to stare
At that honky tonk badonkadonk
Keepin' perfect rhythm
Make ya wanna swing along
Got it goin' on
Like Donkey Kong
And whoo-wee
Shut my mouth, slap your grandma
There outta be a law
Get the Sheriff on the phone
Lord have mercy, how's she even get them britches on
That honky tonk badonkadonk
(Aww son)

Now Honey, you can't blame her
For what her mama gave her
You ain't gotta hate her
For workin' that money-maker
Band shuts down at two
But we're hangin' out till three
We hate to see her go
But love to watch her leave
With that honky tonk badonkadonk
Keepin' perfect rhythm
Make ya wanna swing along
Got it goin' on
Like Donkey Kong
And whoo-wee
Shut my mouth, slap your grandma
There outta be a law
Get the Sheriff on the phone
Lord have mercy, how's she even get them britches on
With that honky tonk badonkadonk
(Ooh, that's what I'm talkin' bout right there, honey)

We don't care bout the drinkin'
Barely listen to the band
Our hands, they start a shakin'
When she gets the urge to dance
Drivin' everybody crazy
You think you fell in love
Boys, you better keep your distance
You can look but you can't touch
That honkey tonk badonkadonk
Keepin' perfect rhythm
Make ya wanna swing along
Got it goin' on
Like Donkey Kong
And whoo-wee
Shut my mouth, slap your grandma
There outta be a law
Get the Sheriff on the phone
Lord have mercy, how's she even get them britches on
That honky tonk badonkadonk

That honky tonk badonkadonk
Yeah, that honky tonk badonkadonk

(That's it, right there boys, that's why we do what we do
It ain't for the money, it ain't for the glory, it ain't for the free whiskey
It's for the badonkadonk)
I'm not bad. I'm just drawn that way!
