Song Lyrics...

Post by jodlyn »

This thread is for when you hear a song and you feel like it's something you want to share. It's also when you hear something which tells what you are feeling at the time, or mainly it's just because you feel like posting something!

If You're Going Through Hell (Before The Devil Even Knows) by Rodney Atkins

Well you know those times when you feel like
There's a sign there on your back
That says I don't mind if you kick me, seems like everybody has
Things go from bad to worse
You think it can't get worse than that
And then they do

You step off the straight and narrow
And you don't know where you are
Used the needle of your compass, to sew up your broken heart
Ask directions from a genie in a bottle of jim beam
And she lies to you
That's when you learn the truth

[Chorus]

If you're goin' through hell keep on going
Don't slow down if you're scared don't show it
You might get out before the devil even knows you're there

I've been deep down in that darkness
I've been down to my last match
Felt a hundred different deamons breathin' fire down my back
And I knew that if I stumbled I'd fall right into the trap
That they were layin'

But the good news is there's angels everywhere out on the street
Holdin' out a hand to pull you back up on your feet
The one's that you've been draggin' for so long
You're on your knees might as well be prayin'
Guess what I'm sayin'

[Chorus]

If you're goin' through hell keep on going
Don't slow down if you're scared don't show it
You might get out before the devil even knows you're there
When you're goin' through hell keep on movin'
Face that fire walk right through it
You might get out before the devil even knows you're there

If you're goin' through hell keep on going
Don't slow down if you're scared don't show it
You might get out before the devil even knows you're there
When you're goin' through hell keep on movin'
Face that fire walk right through it
You might get out before the devil even knows you're there
You might get out before the devil even knows you're there
I'm not bad. I'm just drawn that way!

Thank you Jody

I'm so glad you started this one as well. I'm sure there a mountain of lyrics we can add to this post. I'll get my thinking cap on and maybe even add lyrics to one of each day's offerings that seem appropriate to my mood as that might be an interesting thing to do as well. :)
I'm not going to let my history pull me down and hold me back, you see.

Here we go....

Post by fiona »

I just love this song.....

The Biggest Part of Me - Ambrosia

Yeah

(sunrise)

There's a new sun arisin'
(in your eyes) I can see a new horizon
(realize) that will keep me realizin'
You're the biggest part of me

(stay the night) need your lovin' here beside me
(shine the light) need you close enough to guide me
(for all my life) I've been hopin' you would find me
You're the biggest part of me

Well

Make a wish, baby
Well, and I will make it come true
Make a list, baby
Of the things I'll do for you
Ain't no risk, now,
In lettin' my love rain down on you,
So we could wash away the past,
So that we may start anew

(rainbow) risin' over my shoulder;
(love flows) gettin' better as we're older
(all I know) all I want to do is hold her
She's the life that breathes in me
(forever) got a feelin' that forever
(together) we are gonna stay together
(for better) for me, there's nothin' better
You're biggest part of me

Well

Make a wish, baby
Well, and I will make it come true
Make a list, baby
Of the things I'll do for you
Ain't no risk, now,
In lettin' my love rain down on you,
So we could wash away the past,
So that we may start anew

Oh

More than an easy feelin',
She brings joy to me
How can I tell you
What it means to me?
Flow like a lazy river
For an eternity
I've finally found someone
Who believes in me,
And I'll never leave

Oh

Oh, not to doubt now
Mmmm, make life grand

Well

Make a wish, baby
Well, and I will make it come true
Make a list, baby
Of the things I'll do for you
Ain't no risk, now,
In lettin' my love rain down on you,
So we could wash away the past,
So that we may start anew

(beside me) need your lovin' here beside me
(to guide me) keep it close enough to guide me
(inside of me) from the fears that are inside of me
You're the biggest part of me

(forever) got a feelin' that forever
(together) we are gonna stay together
(forever) from now until forever
You're the biggest part of me
You're the life that breathes in me
You're the biggest part of me

Mmmmm

You changed my life
You made it right
And I'll be a servant to you
For the rest of my life
You're the biggest part of me....
I'm not going to let my history pull me down and hold me back, you see.

I was driving home from the hospital last night and the song by Rodney Atkins came on. It just seemed to fit the mood, so I posted it as soon as I got home.

Also, there are so many obscure song lyrics out there, I thought it would give everyone a chance to post some fun but not really known ones. I'm going to post one of my favorites today...You'll recognize it right away, and it's one that makes me laugh every time I hear it.

Written by Paul Vance and Lee Pockriss and performed by Brian Hyland.

Itsy Bitsy, Teeny Weeny,
Yellow Polka Dot Bikini

O O O O O O O O O O O O O

She was afraid to come out of the locker,
She was as nervous as she could be.
She was afraid to come out of the locker.
She was afraid that somebody would see.

Two, three, four, tell the people what she wore.

It was an itsy bitsy teeny weeny yellow polka dot bikini,
That she wore for the first time today,
An itsy teeny weeny yellow polka dot bikini,
So in the locker she wanted to stay.

Two, three, four, stick around we'll tell you more.

She was afraid to come out of the blanket,
She was as nervous as she could be.
She was afraid to come out of the blanket.
She was afraid that somebody would see.

Two, three, four, tell the people what she wore.

It was an itsy bitsy teeny weeny yellow polka dot bikini,
That she wore for the first time today,
An itsy teeny weeny yellow polka dot bikini,
So in the blanket she wanted to stay.

Two, three, four, stick around we'll tell you more.

She was afraid to come out of the water,
She was as nervous as she could be.
She was afraid to come out of the water.
She was afraid that somebody would see.

Two, three, four, tell the people what she wore.

It was an itsy bitsy teeny weeny yellow polka dot bikini,
That she wore for the first time today,
An itsy teeny weeny yellow polka dot bikini,
So in the water she wanted to stay.

From the locker to the blanket,
From the blanket to the shore,
From the shore to the water,
Guess there isn't any more.

She was afraid to come out in the open,
And so a blanket around her she wore,
She was afraid to come out to the open,
And so she sat bundled up on the shore.

Now she's afraid to come of the water,
And I wonder what she's gonna to do,
Now she's afraid to come out of the water,
And the poor little girl's turning blue.

O O O O O O O O O O O O O
I'm not bad. I'm just drawn that way!

Come Closer to Me - Anacana

Post by fiona »

by Osvaldo Farres and Al Stewart

Also recorded by Nat King Cole

In keeping with the lyrics of the day I chose this one out of the three covered and thought that the lyrics would add a little Latin effect to the post this time.

Moonlight was made for a June night
And June nights were made , dear,
for love and romance
For heavenly kisses, for lips sweet and tender
On this night of splendour
You're so far away

Come closer to me so I can see
heaven in your eyes
Come closer to me so I can be
close to Paradise

Thrill me with your kisses
Let me learn what bliss is
Kiss me once and then we'll kiss and kiss again
And life will be divine

Come closer my dear
So I can hear
music in my heart
I've waited so long to hear
the song that youre love will start

Darling I'll adore you
Live my life just for you
All I ask is this
please give me one more kiss
and whisper you'll be mine

Come closer to me (etc...)

Hoy te estaba esperando
confiarte querida un
secreto de amor
Decirte bajito, bajito al oído
Muchas cosas lindas
Bien cerca de ti

Acercate más, y más, y mas
pero mucho mas
Y besame así, así, así
como besas tu
Pero besa pronto
Porque estou sufriendo
No lo estás tu viendo
Que lo estoy queriendo
sin quererlo tú

Acercate más, y más, y más
pero mucho más
Y besame así, así, así
como besas tu

Acaso pretendes a desesperar me
ven por Diós a darme
eso beso tuyo
que te pedí yo

Acercate más y más, y más (etc...)
I'm not going to let my history pull me down and hold me back, you see.

‘In Every Dream Home a Heartache’

by Bryan Ferry

In every dream home a heartache
And every step I take
Takes me further from heaven
Is there a heaven?
I'd like to think so
Standards of living
They're rising daily
But home oh sweet home
It's only a saying
From bell push to faucet
In smart town apartment
The cottage is pretty
The main house a palace
Penthouse perfection
But what goes on
What to do there
Better pray there

Open plan living
Bungalow ranch style
All of its comforts
Seem so essential
I bought you mail order
My plain wrapper baby
Your skin is like vinyl
The perfect companion
You float my new pool
Deluxe and delightful
Inflatable doll
My role is to serve you
Disposable darling
Can't throw you away now
Immortal and life size
My breath is inside you
I'll dress you up daily
And keep you till death sighs
Inflatable doll
Lover ungrateful
I blew up your body
But you blew my mind.

Sunday Girl - Blondie

I know a girl from a lonely street
Cold as ice cream but still as sweet
Dry your eyes Sunday girl
Hey, I saw your guy with a different girl
Looks like he's in another world
Run and hide Sunday girl

Hurry up, hurry up and wait
I say awake all week and still I wait
I got the blues, please come see
What your loving means to me

She can't catch up with the working crowd
The weekend mood and she's feeling proud
Live in dreams Sunday girl

Baby, I would like to go out tonight
If I go with you my folks'll get uptight
Stay at home Sunday girl

Hey, I saw your guy with a different girl
Looks like he's in another world
Run and hide Sunday girl

When I saw you again in the summertime
If your love was as sweet as mine
I could be Sunday's girl

Hurry up, hurry up and wait
I say awake all week and still I wait
I got the blues, please come see
What your loving means to me
I got the blues
I'm not going to let my history pull me down and hold me back, you see.

You said the way my blue eyes shined,

Post by jodlyn »

I love this song.

By Taylor Swift

You said the way my blue eyes shined,
Put those Gorgia stars to shame that night
I said "thats a lie"
Just a boy in a Chevy truck,
That had a tendency of gettin' stuck,
On back roads at night
And i was right there beside him all summer long
And then the time that we woke up to find that summer gone.

But when you think Tim McGraw,
I hope you think my favorite song
The one we danced to all night long:
The moon like a spotlight on the lake
When you think happiness,
I hope you think that little black dress,
Think of my head on your chest
And my old faded blue jeans,
When you think Tim McGraw,
I hope you think of me.

September saw a month of tears,
I'm thankin' god that you weren't here
To see me like that,
But in a box beneath my bed,
Is a letter that you never read,
From three summers back
It's hard not to find it all a little bitter sweet,
And lookin back on all of that it's nice to believe:

When you think Tim McGraw,
I hope you think my favorite song
The one we danced to all night long:
The moon like a spotlight on the lake
When you think happiness,
I hope you think that little black dress,
Think of my head on your chest
And my old faded blue jeans,
When you think Tim McGraw,
I hope you think of me.

And I'm back for the first time since then,
I'm standin' on your street,
And there's a letter that's on your doorstep
And the first thing that you'll read:

Is when you think Tim Mcgraw,
I hope you think my favorite song
Someday you'll turn your radio on
I hope it takes you back to that place,
When you think happiness,
I hope you think that little black dress,
And think of my head on your chest
And my old faded blue jeans,
When you think Tim McGraw,
I hope you think of me,
Oh, think of me,
Mmmmm.

You said the way my blue eyes shined,
Put those Gorgia stars to shame that night
I said "thats a lie"
I'm not bad. I'm just drawn that way!

Love's In Need of Love Today
Written by Stevie Wonder

Good morn or evening friends
Here's your friendly announcer
I have serious news to pass on to every-body
What I'm about to say
Could mean the world's disaster
Could change your joy and laughter to tears and pain

It's that
Love's in need of love today
Don't delay
Send yours in right away
Hate's goin' round
Breaking many hearts
Stop it please
Before it's gone too far

The force of evil plans
To make you its possession
And it will if we let it
Destroy ev-er-y-body
We all must take
Precautionary measures
If love and please you treasure
Then you'll hear me when I say

Oh that
Love's in need of love today, love's in need of love today
Don't delay, don't delay
Send yours in right away, right away
Hate's goin' round, hate's goin' round
Breaking many hearts, breaking hearts
Stop it please, stop it please
Before it's gone too far, gone too far

People you know that
Love's in need of love today, love's in need of love today
Don't delay, don't de-lay
Send yours in right away, right away
You know that hate's, hate's
Hate's goin' round, goin' round
Breaking many hearts, break-ing hearts
Stop, stop it please
Before it's gone too far, gone too far

It's up to you cause
Love's in need of love today, love's in need of love today
Don't delay, don't delay
Send yours in right away, right away
You know that hate's, hate's
Hate's goin' round, goin' round
Breaking - hate's tried to break my heart many times, breaking hearts
Don't, you've got to stop it please, stop it please
Before, before, before gone too far

Hate's, hate's, hate's goin' round
Bring it down a little, love is very peaceful
So bring it down a little
Well, please stop it
Uw L-O-V-E love Oh,
Love's in need of love today
Don't delay
Right away
Just give the world LOVE.
I'm not going to let my history pull me down and hold me back, you see.

I thought of this thread yesterday, when this song came up..

Post by PapaMouse »

...on the CD I was listening to on the drive home from work. It has a line or two that just seemed to fit.

The House That You Live In
by Gordon Lightfoot

From Summertime Dream

Go first in the world, go forth with your fears.
Remember a price must be paid.
Be always too soon, be never too fast
At the time when all bets must be laid.
Beware of the darkness, be kind to your children,
Remember the woman who waits.
And the house you live in will never fall down
If you pity the stranger who stands at your gate.

When you're caught by the gale and you're full under sail,
Beware of the dangers below.
And the song that you sing should not be too sad,
And be sure not to sing it too slow
.
Be calm in the face of all common disgraces,
And know what they're doin' it for.
And the house you live in will never fall down
If you pity the stranger who stands at your door.

When you're out on the road and feelin' quite lost,
Consider the burden of fame.
And he who is wise will not criticize
When other men fail at the game.
Beware of strange faces and dark dingy places.
Be careful while bending the law.
And the house you live in will never fall down
If you pity the stranger who stands at your door.

When you're down in the dumps and not ready to deal,
Decide what it is that you need.
Is it money or love, is it learnin' to live,
Or is it the mouth you must feed?
Be known as a man who will always be candid
On questions that do not relate.
And the house you live in will never fall down
If you pity the stranger who stands at your gate.
And the house you live in will never fall down
If you pity the stranger who stands at your gate.
Lord, you have filled my cup so full,
How can I fear tomorrow?

'Can't Complain'

by Stan Ridgway

"How you doin' Bert?"
Well, not so good Charlie.
My back's gone out and I cut my finger kinda gnarly.
The job's the same and so's the boss.
He's still a big ass and my wallet got lost.
My wife's sick in bed she says she'll never get well and
all these kids today have gone to hell
and all that government paperwork caught up with me,
had to hire a beancounter for an outrageous fee.
And I don't know if the chicken or the egg is to blame,
but all things considered, I guess I can't complain..."

"Cheer up," Charlie said, "things could be worse."
"Well, yeah, I know, but did I tell you that my landlord's a cop, my neighbor's insane,
but all things considered, I guess I can't complain..."

CHORUS
Out on the water
Where the sailing men all go
The water's high while all the fish swim low

"You know what Bert," Charlie said, "you got the wrong attitude.
Sometimes life's a big game and the paths you can choose
Things may go wrong, but ya gotta stand tall."
"Well I know," Bert said, "but well...that ain't all.
My hair's falling out, the roof leaks when it rains,
but all things considered, I guess I can't complain..."

CHORUS

"You know what Bert," Charlie said, "you're a real loser, so I'll see you
next week if you live 'til then."
And as Bert walked out on the sidewalk, ten floors up, two men lost control
of a hoist at just the right time,
and a big Steinway grand flattened Bert like a dime.
And as a crowd gathered 'round and asked, what was his name?
and could it be the chicken or the egg to blame?
Well, the only thing heard was that all things considered, he really couldn't complain.
So if you're a loser in life and your gun's out of ammo,
just remember this story about Bert and the piano.
'Cause if you can't string the bow and you're clean out of resin,
someone may have planned for you a music lesson.
So keep your eyes to the sky, it could be a brand name, and
remember all things considered, you really can't complain.

Heads up. 8)

God Blessed Texas...

Post by jodlyn »

By Little Texas..

And God blessed the Dallas cheerleaders for Johnny also. Those little tassles and boots are right up his alley. 8):)

I've seen a lot of places
I've been around the world
I've seen some pretty faces
Been with some beautiful girls
But after all I've witnessed one thing still amazes me
Just like a miracle you have to see to believe

'Cause God blessed Texas with His own hand
Brought down angels from the promised land
Gave 'em a place where they could dance
If you wanna see heaven brother here's your chance
I've been sent to spread the message
God blessed Texas

First He lit sunshine
Then He made the waters deep
Then He gave us moonlight
For all the world to see
Well everybody knows that the Lord works in mysterious ways
He took a rest then on the very next day

God blessed Texas with His own hand
Brought down angels from the promised land
Gave 'em a place where they could dance
If you wanna see heaven brother here's your chance
I've been sent to spread the message
God blessed Texas

God blessed Texas with His own hand
Brought down angels from the promised land
Gave 'em a place where they could dance
If you wanna see heaven brother here's your chance
Well I've been sent to spread the message
God blessed Texas

Well I've been sent to spread the message
God blessed Texas
Well I've been sent to spread the message
Mmm...God blessed Texas
I'm not bad. I'm just drawn that way!

My Little Girl

Post by jodlyn »

With apologies to Tim McGraw for changing a couple of words. Boy, she's growing up too fast. Her first crush before Christmas, picking the right high school is happening now and applying for a special college scholar program.

Where does the time go and why can't we keep them little forever?? *sigh*

Verse 1:
Gotta hold on easy as I let you go.
Gonna tell you how much I love you,
though you think you already know.
I remember I thought you looked like an angel wrapped in pink so soft and warm.
You've had me wrapped around your finger since the day you were born.

Chorus:
Your beautiful baby from the outside in.
Chase your dreams but always know the road that'll lead you home again.
Go on, take on this whole world.
But to me you know you'll always be, my little girl.

Verse 2:
When you were in trouble that crooked little smile could melt my heart of stone.
Now look at you, I've turned around and you've almost grown.
Sometimes you're asleep I whisper "I Love You!" in the moonlight at your door.
As I walk away, I hear you say, "Mommy Love You More!".

Chorus

Verse 3:
Someday, some boy will come and ask your dad for your hand.
But he won't say "yes" to him unless I know, he's the half
that makes you whole, he has a poet's soul, and the heart of a man's man.
I know he'll say that he's in love.
But between you and me. He won't be good enough!

Chorus

Stealing Kisses

Post by jodlyn »

By Faith Hill

“It’s late enough,
all you kids should be home.”
The policeman says
as he takes your beer for his own.
You remember,
wondering what his wife thought
about his occupation
He knows that you were just chasing a dream
to the town line and back and over again
So he winks at you girls
and tells you all “I’ll see you later”

I was stealing kisses from a boy
now I’m begging affection from a man
in my house dress,
don’t you know who I am,
don’t you know who I am.
Standing in your kitchen.

It’s late enough,
your husband’s dinner is cold,
so you wrap it up and leave it for him on the stove.
It’s probably the traffic again.
Another important meeting.
You haven’t talked to an adult all day,
’cept for your neighbor who drives you crazy.
When he finally gets in,
he’s sure not in the mood for talkin’.

I was stealing kisses from a boy
now I’m begging affection from a man
in my house dress,
don’t you know who I am,
don’t you know who I am.
I’m standing in your kitchen.

And hours become days,
days become years.
And you could burn down this town
if they made matches from fear.
Cause you’re no worse off than anybody else.
hey, don’t you even know,
don’t you even know yourself?

So you’re standing outside your high school doors.
The ones you walked through 20 years before,
and you whisper to all the girls:
“run, run, oh, run”

I was stealing kisses from a boy
now I’m begging affection from a man
in my house dress,
don’t you know who I am,
don’t you know who I am.
Take a look at who I am
Take a look at who I am.
I’m stealing kisses.
Stealing ksses.
I'm not bad. I'm just drawn that way!
