Night Moves by Bob Seeger

Post by jodlyn »

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GTgLQgpwRvQ

Working on a night moves! Oh yeah!!!

I was a little too tall
Couldve used a few pounds
Tight pants points hardly reknown
She was a black-haired beauty with big dark eyes
And points all her own sitting way up high
Way up firm and high

Out past the cornfields where the woods got heavy
Out in the back seat of my 60 chevy
Workin on mysteries without any clues
Workin on our night moves
Tryin to make some front page drive-in news
Workin on our night moves
In the summertime
In the sweet summertime

We werent in love, oh no, far from it
We werent searchin for some pie in the sky summit
We were just young and restless and bored
Livin by the sword
And wed steal away every chance we could
To the backroom, to the alley or the trusty woods
I used her, she used me
But neither one cared
We were gettin our share
Workin on our night moves
Tryin to lose the awkward teenage blues
Workin on our night moves
And it was summertime

And oh the wonder
We felt the lightning
And we waited on the thunder
Waited on the thunder

I awoke last night to the sound of thunder
How far off I sat and wondered
Started humming a song from 1962
Aint it funny how the night moves
When you just don't seem to have as much to lose
Strange how the night moves
With autumn closing in
I'm not bad. I'm just drawn that way!

In My Daughter's Eyes for Kris and Melissa

Post by jodlyn »

So strong, so kind and so good! You're two beautiful young women who I am so proud to know. You are the lights of my life and my heros! :7207:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eLS0Y40WwlA

In my daughter's eyes I am a hero
I am strong and wise and I know no fear
But the truth is plain to see
She was sent to rescue me
I see who I wanna be
In my daughter's eyes

In my daughter's eyes everyone is equal
Darkness turns to light and the
world is at peace
This miracle God gave to me
gives me strength when I am weak
I find reason to believe
In my daughter's eyes

And when she wraps her hand
around my finger
Oh it puts a smile in my heart
Everything becomes a little clearer
I realize what life is all about

It's hangin' on when your heart
has had enough
It's giving more when you feel like giving up
I've seen the light
It's in my daughter's eyes

In my daughter's eyes I can see the future
A reflection of who I am and what will be
Though she'll grow and someday leave
Maybe raise a family
When I'm gone I hope you see how happy
she made me
For I'll be there
In my daughter's eyes.
I'm not bad. I'm just drawn that way!

And you are?

MARK
Oh - I'm not -
I'm just here to -

Well - This is quite an operation.

PAUL Spoken:
Sit down Mark.
We'll continue the affirmation.

But I try to open up. To what I don't know.

GORDON & ROGER
Because reason says I should have died
Three years ago.

ALL
No other road.
No other way.
No Day But Today.

Lately, this song has been stuck in my head. Especially yesterday. But in my mind, I changed the lyric "...reason says I should have died three years ago" to "...I should have died two years ago." (Has it really been that long?) But I suppose losing MamaMouse a mere 3 months before I first saw the movie version is one of the reasons the show had such a profound impact on me. And I guess thinking about it this way, it makes sense that Roger would join in singing that line. (Even though they never actually say that Roger's girlfriend has been gone three years.)
Lord, you have filled my cup so full,
How can I fear tomorrow?

Firecracker by Josh Turner

Post by jodlyn »

Great song!

http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fu ... D=42227302

Yeeeaaahhhh

When I look in her eyes
It ain't no surprise
Sparks start a flyin like the 4th of July

She gets me so hot, my heart starts a pumpin
When we get to kissin, there aint no stoppin'

When it comes to love
She aint no slacker
My little darlin is a firecracker

When I light the fuse
I gotta get back quick
You gotta be careful with a dynamite stick

Son of a gun she's fun to handle
And she packs a punch like a roman candle
She's a pack of black cats in a red paper wrapper
My little darlin is a firecracker

Chorus:
We might not ought to take a roll in the hay
Cause we'd burn the barn down one of these days
We're a match made in heaven
And it ain't no joke.
But I'd sure I hate to see it go up in smoke

We got a good thing going
And it feels so right
She's a firecracker
She's the light of my life.

She goes off with a great big BANG
Boys i tell ya its a beautiful thing
She takes off you better hang on tight

Shes a blonde bottle rocket
In the middle of the night

When she makes love shes a Heart attacker
My little darlin is a Firecracker

chrous:
We might not ought to take a roll in the hay
Cause we'd burn the barn down one of these days
We're a match made in heaven
And it ain't no joke.
But I'd sure I hate to see it go up in smoke

We got a good thing going
And it feels so right
She's a firecracker
She's the light of my life.

uhhh Haaa

We got a good thing going
And it feels so right
She's a firecracker
She's the light of my life.

We got a good thing going
And it feels so right
She's a firecracker
She's the light of my life.

She's a Firecracker
She's the light of my Life

Firecracker
firecracker

Whooooo hoooo

Firecracker
Firecracker

BANG

and I have just finished tidying up bits on here. I think I better go to bed as I am finding myself singing....

I'M GOING SLIGHTLY MAD by Queen

When the outside temperature rises
And the meaning is oh so clear
One thousand and one yellow daffodils
Begin to dance in front of you - oh dear
Are they trying to tell you something
Youre missing that one final screw
Youre simply not in the pink my dear
To be honest you havent got a clue

Im going slightly mad
Im going slightly mad
It finally happened - happened
It finally happened - ooh oh
It finally happened
Im slightly mad
Oh dear

Im one card short of a full deck
Im not quite the shilling
One wave short of a shipwreck
Im not my usual top billing
Im coming down with a fever
Im really out to sea
This kettle is boiling over
I think Im a banana tree
Oh dear

Im going slightly mad
Im going slightly mad
It finally happened - happened
It finally happened - uh huh
It finally happened
Im slightly mad
Oh dear

Ooh ooh ah ah
Ooh ooh ah ah
Im knitting with only one needle
Unravelling fast its true
Im driving only three wheels these days
But my dear how about you

Im going slightly mad
Im going slightly mad
It finally happened
It finally happened - oh yes
It finally happened
Im slightly mad
Just very slightly mad

And there you have it

So N'night everyone. :17122:
I'm not going to let my history pull me down and hold me back, you see.

Famous in a Small Town by Melissa Lambert

Post by jodlyn »

That's pretty much the case! We have this little newspaper blurb called "Loose Lips" and they tell of things supposed to be kept hidden like emails going awry, council members going nuts in closed door meetings and whoever is doing some hanky panky. But I wouldn't trade living here for all the time in the world in a big city!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XBD5A2X4edA

They say life is so much sweeter
Through the telephoto lens of fame
Around here you get just as much attention
Cheerin' at the high school football game

I dreamed of going to Nashville
Put my money down and placed my bet
But I just got the first buck of the season
I made the front page of the Turnertown Gazzette

Every last one route one rural heart's got a story to tell
Every grandma in-law ex-girlfriend
Maybe knows it just a little too well
Whether you're late for church or you're stuck in jail
Hey, word's gonna get around
Everybody dies famous in a small town

Tyler and Casey broke up
It ended pretty quietly
We heard he was caught red-handed with her mama
So that's just what they let us all believe

Every last one route one rural heart's got a story to tell
Every grandma in-law ex-girlfriend
Maybe knows it just a little too well
Whether you're late for church or you're stuck in jail
Hey, word's gonna get around
Everybody dies famous in a small town

Well baby who need's their faces in a magazine
Me and you, we've been stars of this town since we were seventeen
Let's go on down to the quick stop
Wear your yellow shades and I'll put on my tight jeans
And we'll just spend the weekend burnin' rubber
And we'll let 'em point and stare in disbelief

Every last one route one rural heart's got a story to tell
Every grandma in-law ex-girlfriend
Maybe knows it just a little too well
Whether you're late for church or you're stuck in jail
Hey, word's gonna get around
Everybody dies famous in a small town
Everybody dies famous in a small town
I'm not bad. I'm just drawn that way!

Love Me by Collin Raye

This just came on my Yahoo song list. It's so pretty!

"If you get there before I do
Don't give up on me
I'll meet you when my chores are through
I don't know how long I'll be

But I'm not gonna let you down
Darling wait and see
And between now and then
Til I see you again

I'll be loving you
Love, Me."
I'm not bad. I'm just drawn that way!

Witchy Woman by the Eagles

Post by jodlyn »

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eZ5zGaMELzU

Raven hair and ruby lips
sparks fly from her finger tips
Echoed voices in the night
she's a restless spirit on an endless flight
wooo hooo witchy woman, see how
high she flies
woo hoo witchy woman she got
the moon in her eye
She held me spellbound in the night
dancing shadows and firelight
crazy laughter in another
room and she drove herself to madness
with a silver spoon
woo hoo witchy woman see how high she flies
woo hoo witchy woman she got the moon in her eye
Well I know you want a lover,
let me tell your brother, she's been sleeping
in the Devil's bed.
And there's some rumors going round
someone's underground
she can rock you in the nighttime
'til your skin turns red
woo hoo witchy woman
see how high she flies
woo hoo witchy woman
she got the moon in her eye
I'm not bad. I'm just drawn that way!

When a Child Is Born - Johnny Mathis

Post by PapaMouse »

I heard this song on YouTube, as a result of Fee's MadLib clue. And I loved it so much that I just had to Google the lyrics and post them here:

A ray of hope flickers in the sky.
A tiny star lights up way up high.
All across the land, dawns a brand new morn.
This comes to pass when a child is born.

A silent wish sails the seven seas.
The winds of change whisper in the trees.
And the walls of doubt crumble, tossed and torn.
This comes to pass when a child is born.

A rosy hue settles all around.
You've got the feel you're on solid ground.
For a spell or two, no-one seems forlorn.
This comes to pass when a child is born.

And all of this happens because the world is waiting -
Waiting for one child -
Black, white, yellow, no-one knows.
But a child that will grow up and turn tears to laughter,
Hate to love, war to peace and everyone to everyone's neighbour,
And misery and suffering will be words to be forgotten, forever.

It's all a dream, an illusion now.
It must come true, sometime soon somehow.
All across the land, dawns a brand new morn.
This comes to pass when a child is born.
Lord, you have filled my cup so full,
How can I fear tomorrow?

Fr Ed mentioned this carol in his sermon Monday night.

Post by PapaMouse »

It was written by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, during the American civil war, as reflected by the sense of despair in the next to last stanza. (Longfellow's son had been severely wounded during that war, not long before this carol was written.) Stanzas 4-5 speak of the battle, and are usually omitted from hymnals:

I Heard the Bells On Christmas Day.
Words: Henry W. Longfellow, 1864.
Music: John B. Calkin, 1872

I heard the bells on Christmas day
Their old familiar carols play,
And wild and sweet the words repeat
Of peace on earth, good will to men.

And thought how, as the day had come,
The belfries of all Christendom
Had rolled along the unbroken song
Of peace on earth, good will to men.

Till ringing, singing on its way
The world revolved from night to day,
A voice, a chime, a chant sublime
Of peace on earth, good will to men.

Then from each black, accursed mouth
The cannon thundered in the South,
And with the sound the carols drowned
Of peace on earth, good will to men.

It was as if an earthquake rent
The hearth-stones of a continent,
And made forlorn, the households born
Of peace on earth, good will to men.

And in despair I bowed my head
“There is no peace on earth,” I said,
“For hate is strong and mocks the song
Of peace on earth, good will to men.”

Then pealed the bells more loud and deep:
“God is not dead, nor doth He sleep;
The wrong shall fail, the right prevail
With peace on earth, good will to men.”

If Longfellow could see hope, after losing his wife in an accident (1861), and hearing that his son was badly wounded -- if he could see hope in the midst of the Civil War -- maybe there is still hope for us all, for "peace on earth, good will to men."

Merry Christmas, Feenoters.
Lord, you have filled my cup so full,
How can I fear tomorrow?

Re: I love your song, Papa!

Post by jodlyn »

This last verse is the one which always makes me cry especially in church. The minute our organist starts playing the song, my friends know I'll be crying thoughout the whole thing. I've always been teased for looking at the world through rose colored glasses, but I truly believe God is not looking the other way and there is good in this world. Sometimes it doesn't seem that way, but eventually there is always beauty to behold and kindness from others.

Then pealed the bells more loud and deep:
“God is not dead, nor doth He sleep;
The wrong shall fail, the right prevail
With peace on earth, good will to men.

The sentiments of this song...

Post by fiona »

...are so true for today IMO. This song was released by Elton John in 2004 and it is so nice to see lyrics written by Bernie Taupin again.

A Little Peace
by Elton John and lyrics by Bernie Taupin

It's a tired old world that we're living in
Where the voice of reason is wearing thin
Got a beaten earth, got a hole in the sky
Got a whole lot of angry people crying
"I want an eye for an eye"

Compassion sunk without a trace
All trust is gone, have we lost our faith
Got a taste for hate, got a lot of guns
Got a whole lot of family values bitching
"Just blame it on the young"

And a little peace goes a long, long way
It's peace we want, for peace we pray
A little peace goes a long, long way
It's peace we want, for peace we pray
Ain't so crazy, John Lennon knew
That a little peace goes a long, long way when you want it to

We crush the ones who don't agree
Whose lifestyles clash with you and me
Got our TV sets full of talking heads
Got a whole lot of people walking around
Like the night of the living dead

And a little peace goes a long, long way
It's peace we want, for peace we pray
A little peace goes a long, long way
It's peace we want, for peace we pray
Ain't so crazy, John Lennon knew
That a little peace goes a long, long way when you want it to

Our summer of love has come and gone
Us sixties kids are getting on
We had a dream way back then
No reason why we can't dream again

And a little peace goes a long, long way
It's peace we want, for peace we pray
A little peace goes a long, long way
It's peace we want, for peace we pray
Ain't so crazy, John Lennon knew
That a little peace goes a long, long way when you want it to
I'm not going to let my history pull me down and hold me back, you see.

I played a BUNCH of old vinyl last night and this was one of the gems I stumbled across in my hodge-podge manner of playing records. One of my favorites by MS Harris!

Feelin' Single - Seein' Double - Emmylou Harris

Well I really had a ball last night
I held all the pretty boys tight
I was feelin' single, seein' double
Wound up in a whole lotta trouble
But today I'll face the big fight
But I really had a ball last night
When I came home from work this morning
My baby was feelin' low
And he told me what was on his mind
Then he told me where I could go
Well I didn't go where he told me to
Cause the water was cold in the lake
Now there's something fishy 'bout this whole deal
I don't see where I made my mistake
Well I really had a ball last night
I held all the pretty boys tight

I was feelin' single, seein' double
Wound up in a whole lotta trouble
But today I'll face the big fight
But I really had a ball last night

When I woke up this morning
Like me, the sun was high
Well I started walking the long way home
Just to think of an alibi
Well I couldn't think of a darn gawn thing
That hadn't already been said
So I guess I better just play it by ear
Cause I'm already dead
Well I really had a ball last night
I held all the pretty boys tight

I was feelin' single, seein' double
Wound up in a whole lotta trouble
But today I'll face the big fight
But I really had a ball last night
Yes today I'll face the big fight
But I really had a ball last night
Toolin' down the highway doing 79,
I'm a twin-pipe papa and I'm feeling fine...
