For Fiona...Angels by Robbie Williams

Post by jodlyn »

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LF8unwxhNho

I sit and wait
Does an angel contemplate my fate ?
And do they know
The places where we go
When we're grey and old ?
'Cos I've been told
That salvation lets their wings unfold
So when I'm lying in my bed
Thoughts running through my head
And I feel that love is dead
I'm loving angels instead

CHORUS:
And through it all she offers me protection
A lot of love and affection
Whether I'm right or wrong
And down the waterfall
Wherever it may take me
I know that life won't break me
When I come to call
She won't forsake me
I'm loving angels instead

When I'm feeling weak
And my pain walks down a one way street
I look above
And I know I'll always be blessed with love
And as the feeling grows
She breathes flesh to my bones
And when love is dead
I'm loving angels instead
I'm not bad. I'm just drawn that way!

Life is a Minestrone - 10CC...

Post by tmac396 »

Artist - 10cc
Album - The Original Soundtrack
Lyrics - Life Is A Minestrone

I'm dancing on the White House lawn
Sipping tea by the Taj Mahal at dawn
Hanging round the gardens of Babylon
Minnie Mouse has got it all sewn up, c'mon pluto
She gets more fan mail than the Pope, own up, own up
She takes the Mickey out of all my phobias
Like signing cheques to ward off double pneumonia
Life is a minestrone, served up with parmesan cheese
Death is a cold lasagne suspended in deep freeze
I'm leaning on the tower of Pisa
Had an eyeful of the tower in France
I'm hanging round the gardens of Madison
The seat of learning and the flush of success
Relieve a constipated mind
I'm like a gourmet in a skid row diner
A fitting menu for a dilletante
Life is a minestrone, served up with parmesan cheese
Death is a cold lasagne suspended in deep freeze
Love is a fire of flaming brandy upon crepe suzette
Let's get this romance cooking honey
But let us not forget
Life is a minestrone, served up with parmesan cheese
Death is a cold lasagne suspended in deep freeze
Life is a minestrone, served up with parmesan cheese
Death is a cold lasagne suspended in deep freeze
Love is a fire of flaming brandy upon crepe suzette
Let's get this romance cooking honey
But let us not forget
Life is a minestrone, served up with parmesan cheese
Death is a cold lasagne suspended in deep freeze
Life is a minestrone, served up with parmesan cheese
Death is a cold lasagne suspended in deep freeze
Come on
Mini, mini, mini, minestrone
Mini, mini, mini, minestrone
Mini, mini, mini, minestrone
Mini, mini, mini, minestrone
Toolin' down the highway doing 79,
I'm a twin-pipe papa and I'm feeling fine...

Pass Me By...

Post by tmac396 »

...from "Father Goose"...one of my favorite movies.

I got me ten fine toes to wiggle in the sand,
Lots of idle fingers snap to my command,
A loverly pair of heels that kick to beat the band,
Contemplating nature can be fascinating,
Add to these a nose that I can thumb, and a mouth by gum have I
So tell the whole wide world, if you don't happen to like it,
Deal me out, thank you kindly, pass me by.

[musical interlude]

(I got me ten fine toes to wiggle in the sand,)
(Lots of idle fingers snap to my command,)
(A loverly pair of heels that kick to beat the band,)
(Contemplating nature can be fascinating)
(Add to these a nose that I can thumb, and a mouth by gum have I)
(So tell the whole wide world, if you don't happen to like it,)
(Deal me out, thank you kindly, pass me by.)
(Pass me by, pass me by, if you don't happen to like it, pass me by.)
Behold me two great shoes that never saw a shine,
Houses I could hold up with a laundry line.
A loverly patch that hide an awful lot of spine.
Shirtails flying, I'm a blooming dandelion.
Add to these, a grin from ear to ear, all the proper gear have I,
So tell the whole wide world, if you don't like the thought of it,
Bail me out, thank you kindly, pass me by.
Toolin' down the highway doing 79,
I'm a twin-pipe papa and I'm feeling fine...

John Prine at his best...

Post by tmac396 »

Paradise
©John Prine

When I was a child my family would travel
Down to Western Kentucky where my parents were born
And there's a backwards old town that's often remembered
So many times that my memories are worn.

Chorus:
And daddy won't you take me back to Muhlenberg County
Down by the Green River where Paradise lay
Well, I'm sorry my son, but you're too late in asking
Mister Peabody's coal train has hauled it away

Well, sometimes we'd travel right down the Green River
To the abandoned old prison down by Airdrie Hill
Where the air smelled like snakes and we'd shoot with our pistols
But empty pop bottles was all we would kill.

Repeat Chorus:

Then the coal company came with the world's largest shovel
And they tortured the timber and stripped all the land
Well, they dug for their coal till the land was forsaken
Then they wrote it all down as the progress of man.

Repeat Chorus:

When I die let my ashes float down the Green River
Let my soul roll on up to the Rochester dam
I'll be halfway to Heaven with Paradise waitin'
Just five miles away from wherever I am.

Repeat Chorus:
Toolin' down the highway doing 79,
I'm a twin-pipe papa and I'm feeling fine...

I love a good story song...

Post by tmac396 »

...and Marty Robbins was the best storyteller around.

"The Ballad of the Alamo" by Marty Robbins

In the southern part of Texas
In the town of San Antone
There's a fortress all in ruins that the weeds have overgrown
You may look in vain for crosses and you'll never see a-one
But sometimes between the setting and the rising of the sun
You can hear a ghostly bugle
As the men go marching by
You can hear them as they answer
To that roll call in the sky.

Colonel Travis, Davy Crockett, and a hundred eighty more
Captain Dickinson, Jim Bowie
Present and accounted for.

Back in 1836, Houston said to Travis
"Get some volunteers and go
Fortify the Alamo."
Well the men came from Texas
And from old Tennessee
And they joined up with Travis
Just to fight for the right to be free.

Indian scouts with squirrel guns
Men with muzzle-loaders
Stood together, heel and toe
To defend the Alamo.

"You may ne'er see your loved ones,"
Travis told them that day
"Those who want to can leave now
Those who fight to the death let 'em stay."

In the sand he drew a line
With his army sabre
Out of a hundred eighty five
Not a soldier crossed the line
With his banners a-dancin'
In the dawn's golden light
Santa Anna came prancing
On a horse that was black as the night.

Sent an officer to tell
Travis to surrender
Travis answered with a shell
And a rousing rebel yell
Santa Anna turned scarlet
"Play deguello!" he roared
"I will show them no quarter
Every one will be put to the sword!"

One hundred and eighty five
Holding back five thousand
Five days, six days, eight days, ten
Travis held and held again
Then he sent for replacements
For his wounded and lame
But the troops that were coming
Never came, never came, never came...

Twice he charged and blew recall
On the fatal third time
Santa Anna breached the wall
And he killed 'em, one and all
Now the bugles are silent
And there's rust on each sword
And the small band of soldiers...

Lie asleep in the arms of the Lord...

In the southern part of Texas
Near the town of San Antone
Like a statue on his pinto rides a cowboy all alone
And he sees the cattle grazing where a century before
Santa Anna's guns were blazing and the cannons used to roar
And his eyes turn sorta misty
And his heart begins to glow
And he takes his hat off slowly...

To the men of Alamo.

To the thirteen days of glory
At the seige of Alamo...
Toolin' down the highway doing 79,
I'm a twin-pipe papa and I'm feeling fine...

Boondocks by Little Big Town

Post by jodlyn »

I'm a little homesick after my brother's visit. I miss the swamps and the area of Louisiana I grew up in. While much of where I grew up has been destroyed by Hurricane Katrina, I still miss home. I hope to move back someday.

I feel no shame
I'm proud of where I came from
I was born and raised in the boondocks
One thing I know
No matter where I go
I keep my heart and soul in the boondocks

And I can feel
That muddy water running through my veins
And I can hear that lullaby of a midnight train
It sings to me and it sounds familiar

I feel no shame
I'm proud of where I came from
I was born and raised in the boondocks
One thing I know
No matter where I go
I keep my heart and soul in the boondocks

And I can taste
That honeysuckle and it's still so sweet
When it grows wild
On the banks down at old camp creek
Yeah, and it calls to me like a warm wind blowing

I feel no shame
I'm proud of where I came from
I was born and raised in the boondocks
One thing I know
No matter where I go
I keep my heart and soul in the boondocks

It's where I learned about living
It's where I learned about love
It's where I learned about working hard
And having a little was just enough

It's where I learned about Jesus
And knowing where I stand
You can take it or leave it, this is me
This is who I am

Give me a tin roof
A front porch and a gravel road
And that's home to me
It feels like home to me

I feel no shame
I'm proud of where I came from
I was born and raised in the boondocks
One thing I know
No matter where I go
I keep my heart and soul in the boondocks

I keep my heart and soul in the boondocks

You get a line, I'll get a pole
We'll go fishing in the crawfish hole
Five-card poker on a Saturday night
Church on Sunday morning

[2x]
You get a line, I'll get a pole
We'll go fishing in the crawfish hole
(Down in the boondocks)
Five-card poker on a Saturday night
Church on Sunday morning

Say a little prayer for me
I'm not bad. I'm just drawn that way!

Bridge Over Trouble Water by Simon and Garfunkel...

Post by jodlyn »

I'm sailing right behind like a bridge over trouble waters..I will ease your mind! *Sigh* Love this song! So beautiful!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qFruKvAq8PQ

When you´re weary, feeling small
When tears are in your eyes, I'll dry them all...all...
I´m on your side, oh, when times get rough
And friends just can´t be found
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down

When you´re down and out
When you´re on the street
When evening falls so hard
I will comfort you (ooh)
I´ll take your part, oh, when darkness comes
And pain is all around
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down

Sail on silver girl
Sail on by
Your time has come to shine
All your dreams are on their way
See how they shine
Oh, if you need a friend
I´m sailing right behind
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind
I'm not bad. I'm just drawn that way!

Thank you, jodyangel.

I've always liked that song, too. There have been many duos in the mumblety-mumble years I've been listening to music, but none had the style of Simon and Garfunkel.
Lord, you have filled my cup so full,
How can I fear tomorrow?

I do believe Art Garfunkel has one of the most beautiful voices in music. Their wistful songs make you cry, make you laugh and make you think of things long past.

My Wish by Rascal Flatts...

Post by jodlyn »

I needed this today, and I thought I would post it here.

Rascal Flatts - My Wish Lyrics

I hope that days come easy and moments pass slow,
And each road leads you where you want to go,
And if you're faced with a choice, and you have to choose,
I hope you choose the one that means the most to you.
And if one door opens to another door closed,
I hope you keep on walkin' till you find the window,
If it's cold outside, show the world the warmth of your smile,

More then anything, more then anything,
My wish, for you, is that this life becomes all that you want it,
To your dreams stay big, and your worries stay small,
You never need to carry more then you can hold,
And while you're out there getting where you're getting to,
I hope you know somebody loves you, and wants the same things too,
Yeah, this, is my wish.

I hope you never look back, but you never forget,
All the ones who love you, in the place you left,
I hope you always forgive, and you never regret,
And you help somebody every chance you get,
Oh, you find God's grace, in every mistake,
And you always give more then you take.

Oh More then anything, Yeah, and more then anything,
My wish, for you, is that this life becomes all that you want it,
To your dreams stay big, and your worries stay small,
You never need to carry more then you can hold,
And while you're out there getting where you're getting to,
I hope you know somebody loves you, and wants the same things too,
Yeah, this, is my wish.
I'm not bad. I'm just drawn that way!

The Last Blues Song.

Post by PapaMouse »

MamaMouse always loved this Helen Reddy song (found on her first album I Am Woman). It's a fun song, and it seems to fit. (I've changed the gender-specific pronouns, to make it fit better.)

I've been cryin' and my-oh-my-in'
Since she's been gone.
But I've done some thinkin'
And it's starting to sink in
That life goes on.
So if you're somebody
Who's feeling sorry for yourself,
Better sing along.
'Cause this is gonna be
The last blues song.

Now a little bitty fit
Of self pity
Can really sing.
But it keeps on growin'
And you know woe-woe-in'
Don't change a thing.
So if you're a person
Who's hooked on hurtin' on yourself,
Better sing along.
'Cause this is gonna be
The last blues song.

Woe, woe, woe, woe,
Woe, woe, woe, woe,
My oh my.
Yea, yea, yea, yea, yea, yea, yea,
I'm fit to die.
Baby, baby, baby, baby, baby, baby
Please dont go..
Papa I think I'm getting high
On feeling, low woe woe woe woe woe woe.
So all you losers, you full time blues-ers
Get out of bed.
Don't you go and give in.
Don't you give up on livin'
Before youre dead.

Come on now brother,
If you've been motherin' yourself
Better sing along.
'Cause this is gonna be...
This is gonna be
The last blues song.

It works better if you can actually hear it, but YouTube doesn't seem to have it. And I've tried Googling for sound clips, but can't find anything. Except this sample from Amazon.com: http://www.amazon.com/gp/music/wma-pop- ... 35-6794446

Smooth by Rob Thomas and Santana...

Post by jodlyn »

I remember that song, Papa. Beautiful!

Here's one for dancing to on these warm summer days. You can't help but get up and do hot Latin moves. I'm a fan of Santana and Rob Thomas.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gpX97eg-W-k

Man it's a hot one
Like seven inches from the midday sun
I hear you whisper and the words melt everyone,
But you stay so cool
My Muñequita, my Spanish Harlem Mona Lisa
You're my reason for reason, the step in my groove

And if you said this life ain't good enough
I would give my world to lift you up
I could change my life to better suit your mood
Cause you're so smooth

And it's like the ocean under the moon
Well that's the same as the emotion that I get from you
You got the kind of lovin' that could be so smooth
Give me your heart, make it real, or else forget about it

Well I'll tell you one thing
If you would leave it be a crying shame
In every breath and every word
I hear your name, calling me out
Out from the barrio, you hear my rhythm on your radio
You feel the turning of the world so soft and slow
Turning you round and round

And it's like the ocean under the moon
Well that's the same as the emotion that I get from you
You got the kind of lovin' that could be so smooth
Give me your heart, make it real, or else forget about it
I'm not bad. I'm just drawn that way!

In The Boodocks by Little Big Town

Post by jodlyn »

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6iCb0Oip ... ed&search=

I heard this song for the first time today, and I took me back to growing up just a block from the Mississippi river. I'd go up there and watch the ships and river boats float up and down. Then I'd drive down with my dad to the swamps and pick up a big burlap bag filled with crawfish and crabs. Sunday was church with grandma and evenings were filled with the smell of magnolia's and the river water...Even with some not so good memories, those days are still good to remember...

I feel no shame
I'm proud of where I came from
I was born and raised in the boondocks
One thing I know
No matter where I go
I keep my heart and soul in the boondocks

And I can feel

Friday On My Mind - The Easybeats

Monday morning feels so bad,
Ev'rybody seems to nag me
Coming tuesday I feel better,
Even my old man looks good,
Wednesday just don't go,
Thursday goes too slow,
I've got Friday on my mind

[Chorus:]
Gonna have fun in the city,
Be with my girl she's so pretty,
She looks fine tonight,
She is out of sight to me,
Tonight... I spend my bread,
Tonight... I lose my head,
Tonight... I got to get tonight
Monday I have Friday on my mind.

Do the five day drag once more,
Know of nothing else that bugs me
More than working for the rich man,
Hey I'll change that scene one day,
Today I might be mad,
Tomorrow I'll be glad,
I've got Friday on my mind,

[Chorus]
Gonna have fun in the city,
Be with my girl she's so pretty,
She looks fine tonight,
She is out of sight to me,
Tonight... I spend my bread,
Tonight... I lose my head,
Tonight... I got to get tonight
Monday I have Friday on my mind.

Have a GREAT WEEKEND, gang!
Toolin' down the highway doing 79,
I'm a twin-pipe papa and I'm feeling fine...

All the best for your weekends

Post by fiona »

AT THE WEEKEND by Portus

Forty hours a week, just to pay off the debts
Whilst the boss gets filthy rich from your daily sweat
You know it's modern slavery, but, you'll survive
You have the consolation of your life outside
When it's time, you stick your finger up, and head for home
For the weekend

The fun's about to start, now the week's at an end
Make sure you've got some euro's and your plastic friend
It's time to seek some action, time to rave and chant
The night time is the right time, and the city's Rotterdam
Remember, don't do anything that I wouldn't do
In the weekend

Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh.....
When the work's been done
It's time to have some fun
At the weekend

The soothing satisfaction of a long cool drink
The karaoke beckons, Buddy, Bowie, or Sting ?
Dutch courage lends a helping hand, you're ready to go
Don't wait to get a call-up from the Sound-mix Show
You've lost your credibility, but, what the heck!
It's the weekend

It's time to hit the dance floor, make way for the star
Your pride gets hurt, and backside too, so back to the bar
The ship is in the harbour, but your brain's all at sea
You think you're something special, but it's all fantasy
Another night to remember, but never again
'Til next weekend

Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh.....
When the work's been done
It's time to have some fun
At the weekend

Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh.....
When the work's been done
It's time to have some fun
At the weekend
When the work's been done
It's time to have some fun
At the weekend
I'm not going to let my history pull me down and hold me back, you see.
