Romero, Angel (17th August 1946-Present)

He is a classical guitarist born in Malaga, Spain and the youngest son of the guitarist Celedonio Romero.

He began performing when he was six years old, making his American debut when he was sixteen.  He studied with the conductor Eugene Ormandy and has conducted the Pittsburgh Symphony, the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, the Royal Philharmonic and the New Beijing Philharmonic amongst others.

As a solo guitarist he has performed with orchestras that include the New York Philharmonic, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and the Cleveland Orchestra.  He has also been a member of the quartet Los Romeros which comprised his father and his three brothers and is sometimes known as “The Royal Family of the Guitar”.

As a composer he wrote and directed the score for the movie Bienvenido-Welcome, for which he won an ARIEL Award, and he has also performed on the scores of By The Sword and The Milagro Bean Field.  He also appeared in the film Bound by Honor in a cameo role.

His awards include the Grand Cross of Isabel la Catolica which is the highest honour that Spain can give, he was knighted for his “astounding musical accomplishments” in 2007 and presented with the Recording Academy President’s Merit Award.
