Shapiro, Ulrike

Soprano who attended The Peabody Conservatory at Johns Hopkins University and obtained her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in music, and her Graduate Performance Diploma in voice in 1996.

In the winter of 2000-2001, she was the assistant director for the Opera Company of Philadelphia’s production of Mozart’s The Magic Flute.  She was on stage in April and May of 2005 as Ida in their mounting of Johann Strauss II’s Die Fledermaus.

Her singing is not confined to the opera stage as she has also been a member of The Philadelphia Singers, the chorus-in-residence of The Philadelphia Orchestra.

Ulrike has been the Managing Director of the Philadelphia-based Baroque ensemble, Tempesta di Mare.  On her watch, they have recorded the five-star album, The Fantastic Herr Fasch and Alessandro Scarlatti:  Cantatas and Chamber Music on the Chandos label.  They also did a European tour in 2009 and have managed to court an international audience via concert broadcasts on American Public Media.

She has also lectured on opera and voice and taught German diction at the Curtis Institute of Music.
