Clavijo, German

Violist and conductor who trained in Buenos Aires, Argentina before taking further studies at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London.

He has been a principal with the European Union Youth Orchestra and Orquesta Ciudad de Granada, a member of the London Symphony Orchestra and Tubbs Ensemble, and artistic director of Ensemble Instrumental de Granada.

He joined the London Symphony Orchestra in 2009 and in March of that year the LSO presented “Russian Dreams: The Music of Sergei Prokofiev” at Lincoln Center. The eight-day extravaganza included all of Prokofiev’s symphonies and violin concertos, and his second and fourth piano concertos.

They gave the world premiere of Tim Garland’s “Concerto for Percussion, Saxophone and Orchestra” at Barbican Hall on 5^th May 2011. Francois-Xavier Roth conducted, with Neil Percy on percussion and the composer on sax.

On 12^th February 2012, the Tubbs Ensemble appeared at Palacio de Quinta Alegre in Granada, Spain. Their program consisted of string quartets by Bela Bartok, Juan Cruz Guevara, and Claude Debussy.

The LSO delivered the European premiere of Andre Previn’s “Concerto for Violin, Viola and Orchestra” with the composer conducting, Yuri Bashmet on viola and Anne-Sophie Mutter on violin on 19^th February 2012.

Recordings on which German appears include Britten: War Requiem with the Choir of Eltham College and the London Symphony Chorus & Orchestra and Partes de la Suma by Pablo Mainetti.

In the field of musical education he has been a professor of viola at Academia Sarasate.
