Steele-Perkins, Crispian (18th December 1944-Present)

He is a British virtuoso trumpeter and teacher who received his musical education by “borrowing” his brother’s trumpet until he got his own, and then beginning to play at school he won the Brass Prize in his first term there.

He joined the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain and later studied at the Guildhall School of Music in London. After graduation he spent 6 months with the BBC Training Orchestra, performed with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and spent the next seven years with the Sadlers Wells Opera (the English National Opera) before moving into the studios and working on countless TV and film scores.

Working with classical and popular artists alike he has accompanied the English Chamber Orchestra, Collegium Musicum 90, Philip Jones Brass Ensemble, The Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra, The Parley of Instruments, The Taverner Players, Tafelmusik, the King’s Consort, the Academy of Ancient Music and the English Baroque Soloists. Dame Kiri te Kanawa, Bryn Terfel, Sir Harry Secombe, Lulu, Elaine Paige, Sir Bob Geldof, Chris Rea, Kate Bush, Lesley Garrett, Sir Cliff Richard and many more.

He has released 20 solo albums which include Trumpets Ancient & Modern, The Regent’s Bugle and The English Trumpet, can be heard on over 80 television and film scores such as Batman, James Bond, Jaws, Ghandi, Dr. Who and Antiques Roadshow, and other recordings such as Torell: Concertos, Purcell: Complete Odes and Welcome Songs, Handel: Ode for St. Cecilias Day,Vivaldi: Famous Concerti, Pachelbel Greatest Hits, Handel: Messiah, Festival Mass at the Imperial Court of Vienna 1648, American Music for Brass, TV Classics, Kiri, and Antique Brasses.

Regularly touring he has given many international concerts and recitals as well as many presentations and masterclasses on his specialty, the Baroque trumpet.

As an author he has written the reference book Trumpet, which is used by many teachers and students and professional musicians and as a teacher he was on the faculty of the Guildhall School of Music for eleven years.
