Levin, Archie

Violinist and violist with the New York Symphony who established himself as a session musician in the ‘60s, playing for Sam Cooke on the single “Sad Mood”/”Tenderness”, and later made the cut on The Man Who Invented Soul and Portrait of a Legend 1951-1964.

He also collaborated with Astrud Gilberto on her album, Astrud For Lovers. In 1968, he played violin on Artie Butler’s Have You Met Miss Jones? and a year later popped up on Walter Wanderley’s Moondreams.

Archie opened the 1970s with appearances on Something by Tony Bennett and Luis Bonfa’s LP, The New Face of Bonfa. In 1974, he played viola on Janis Ian’s Stars and subsequently wound up on the compilation, Souvenirs: Best of Janis Ian 1972-1981.

He performed on Frank Sinatra’s 1979 boxed set, Trilogy, and tested out his classical chops on French Harp Music, performing Claude Debussy’s “Danse Sacree et Danse Profane for Harp and Strings” with The Stradivari String Quartet.

In 2007, he appeared on the television soundtrack album, The Simpsons: Testify.
