Calder, Mark (1961-Present)

He is a trumpeter born in Inverness, Scotland, who began performing while young.

He performed for several orchestras and brass bands in his local area before becoming a student of teaching and music at the Scottish Academy of Music and Dance.  After winning the Governor’s prize for brass he went on to take further studies at the National Centre for Orchestral Studies.

After venturing out into his solo career he has held positions within several orchestras and ensembles including the Orchestra for Birmingham Royal Ballet, the European Union Youth Orchestra, the New London Orchestra, the World Orchestra for Peace and the Bournemouth Sinfonietta.

He has also appeared as a soloist at events that include being broadcast on Classic FM and performing at the Three Choirs Festival.

Working in the recording studio he was the soloist on “The Toy Trumpet” which appears on the 1998 American Light Music Classics by the New London Orchestra.

In recent years he has held the position of Second Trumpeter with the Philharmonia Orchestra.

In the field of musical education he has taken part in workshops for the Royal College of Music and taught at Guildford’s Royal Grammar School.
