In 1977, I worked with a woman who had recently moved to NC from the Boston area. Apparently, the radio station she listened to in Boston was afraid of racial backlash or something, and censored the song. She said that until she moved to Durham, she always heard it as "Play That Funky Music ____ ___". Never even knew that it included a reference to "White Boy".
