Ogerman, Claus (29th April 1930-8th March 2016)

He was a conductor, composer and arranger born in Ratibor, Prussia who started his musical career as a pianist.

In the 1950s he worked in Germany as an arranger/pianist and in 1959 he moved to the United States and joined Verve Records, working with artists such as Antonio Carlos Jobim, Wes Montgomery and Bill Evans.   He moved to Creed Taylor’s label, CTI, in 1963.

In 2001 he arranged Diana Krall’s album The Look of Love and conducted her on the DVD Live in Paris.

He is a composer in his own right and has composed a ballet score for the American Ballet Theatre as well as various orchestral works including a concerto for violin and orchestra.

He attributed his influences as Alexander Scriabin and Max Reger.

He died in March 2016 when he was 85 years old.
