He is a violinist, chamber musician and teacher born in Fontainebleau, France, whose father was the violist Pierre Pasquier. He began studying the instrument from a very young age and entered the Paris Conservatoire to study violin and in 1958, when he was twelve, he won the first prize for violin and chamber music.
When he was fourteen he travelled to the United States to perform a recital and here he met many esteemed musicians that included Nadia Boulanger, David Oistrakh, and Isaac Stern and also after being heard by Zino Francescatti he would later be called upon to collaborate with him on a recording of “Concerto for Two Violins” by Johann Sebastian Bach. This was enough to set him on his way in a highly successful career in music where he has performed with the world’s major orchestras and been led by many of the most acclaimed conductors such as Alain Lombard and Georges Szell.
1970 saw him forming the New Pasquier Trio with the violist Bruno Pasquier and the cellist Roland Pidoux.
His recordings are many and include Claude Debussy: Les Trois Sonates, Mozart: Flute Concertos. Prokofiev: Sonatas for Violin and Piano with Pascal Roge, Paganini: Caprices Op. 1 and Penderecki: Sextet/Clarinet Quartet/Cello Divertimento, Ravel: Chamber Works and Saint-Saens: Carnival of the Animals: Organ Symphony among many others.
1994 saw him stepping into the world of the silver screen where he is a featured violinist in the movie Le Colonel Chabert.
Recognised for his contribution to music he was made Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres in 1985, to add to his other awards which have included the Charles Cros Prize, the Georges Enesco Prize and the French Record Academy Prize.
Venturing into the field of musical education in 1985 he took the position of Professor of Violin and Chamber Music at the Paris Conservatory and taught there until 2011.
