Paulson, Bruce

Trombonist who matriculated from the University of his home state of Minnesota and went on to join the Buddy Rich Big Band and NBC’s Tonight Show Band, with whom he would stay for two decades.

During the day, he pursued session work, recording with the Toshiko Akiyoshi Big Band, Walter Becker, Natalie Cole, Lowell George, The Glenn Miller Orchestra, Leo Kottke, Michel Legrand, Steve Miller, the Poncho Sanchez Latin Jazz Band, Dianne Reeves, Nelson Riddle, Smokey Robinson, Frank Sinatra, The Spinners, Ringo Starr, Donna Summer.

In later years, he has dedicated himself to teaching at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas and UCLA’s Henry Mancini Institute and participating in a variety of music festivals and workshops, including the International Trombone Festival, Suburban Jazz Band Festival, the TaurangeNational Jazz Festival, and the Wenatchee Jazz Workshop.
