Kokkonen, Elissa Lee

Violinist who has been active on the concert circuit since 1994 when she wowed audiences with her performance of Beethoven’s “Violin Concerto” in tandem with The Baltimore Chamber Orchestra.  Other appearances she made that year included a Stradivari Society Classical Recital of Pablo Sarasate’s “Carmen Fantasie” with pianist, Robert Keonig, and a stop at Maitrise Sainte-Cecile de la Cathedrale Notre-Dame de Luxembourg, where she performed Mozart’s fourth violin concerto with Les Solistes Europeens.

In 1995, she made a pair of appearances in Florida, first in a recital of Saint-Saens’ “Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso”, Stravinsky’s “Divertimento”, and Ysaye’s “Sonata No. 2 for Solo Violin” at Rinker Playhouse, then in a performance of the Beethoven concerto with the Florida Philharmonic at Florida Atlantic University.

Stravinsky was central to Elissa’s program with the Eugene Symphony Orchestra on 22nd March 1996, when she performed his “Concerto in D major for Violin and Orchestra” at Hult Center in Eugene, Oregon.  It was back to the Sunshine State and the Florida Philharmonic on 3rd June for a program of short works by Johannes Brahms.  On 20th July, she performed in the Riverbend Family Concert with the Cincinnati Symphony and Pops Orchestra at Riverbend Music Center.

Things got experimental in 1997 when Elissa premiered Christopher Theofanidis’s “On the Edge of the Infinite” with Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte Carlo and attended the Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival, which shone the spotlight on 20th century American chamber music.

Other groups she has worked with over the years include the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, and Pro Arte Musical.
