Asensio, Enrique Garcia (22nd August 1937-Present)

He is an orchestral conductor born in Valencia, Spain.

He was a student of violin, harmony, counterpoint, chamber music and composition at the Royal Conservatory in Madrid and later studied conducting at the Higher School of Music in Munich and then at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena.

He currently teaches at the Valencia Conservatory, is Head of the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Conservatory of Music, and Professor of Orchestral Conducting at the Madrid Conservatory.

He has conducted several acclaimed orchestras including the Madrid Symphony Orchestra and the Washington National Symphony Orchestra and currently serves as the resident conductor for the Radiotelevision Espanola Symphony Orchestra.

He has been awarded the title of Knight of the Order of Santo Caliz and Santa Maria del Puig and was awarded the 1992 National Music Prize by the Asociacion de Cultura Viva for a “life devoted to music”.

He became the Music Director and Principal Conductor of the Municipal Symphonic Band of Madrid in 2006.
