Bonaparte, Bonny

Percussionist, songwriter and vocalist from Trinidad and Tobago who performed with The Trinidad Troubadours and got a taste of life in the U.S. when they toured the Americas.

Some of the artists and groups he has worked with include Bee Gees, James Brown, B.T. Express, Natalie Cole, The Commodores, The Jackson 5, KC and the Sunshine Band, The Manhattans, Bob Marley, and Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes.

He has also been active with Bruce Hornsby and the Range and Spyro Gyra. At the end of the millennium, he and the rest of Bruce Hornsby’s band recorded a live album, Here Come the Noise Makers. Their touring continued into the spring of 2001 when the band did a sweep of the American Southeast.

In 2007, Bonny joined Spyro Gyra in time for their album, Good to Go-Go. He penned the third track, “Jam Up”, and sang vocals on “Wassup!” which featured long-time SG collaborator Julio Fernandez on guitar.  He appeared on Spyro Gyra’s 2009 album, Down the Wire.

He left Spyro Gyra in 2011 with health problems following a stroke.

Here he is performing a drum solo…
