Boyd, Liona Maria Carolynne (11th July 1949-Present)

She is a guitarist, nicknamed “The First Lady of Guitar”, who was born in London, England and moved to Canada with her family when she was eight years old. She became interested in learning the guitar after hearing a concert by Julian Bream and her parents bought her one for Christmas that year so she could begin to learn how to play.

She studied with Julian Bream and Andrew Segovia, among others, and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Performance at Toronto University. She won the Canadian National Music Competition and after studying for two years in Paris she returned and recorded her first album.  She recorded her album Persona with guest artists that included Yo-Yo Ma, David Gilmour and Eric Clapton.

She was awarded with the honor of being made a Member of the Order of Canada in 1981 and dated Pierre Trudeau for eight years.

As of 2016 she has 27 studio albums to her credit with at least one due for release in the next year or so.
