He is a horn and recorder player, flautist, saxophonist, songwriter and arranger who was active during much of the late 1970s and ‘80s performing on the albums of many Scandinavian artists including several album recordings by the successful Swedish group ABBA.
In 1973 he was the arranger on the double album Danspartaj 2 by Moonlighters. The following year he was the arranger for Halligang 3 by Schytts and in 1975 he worked with the group again on Halligang 5 as well as their En Gang. Also in 1975 he co-wrote the song “Tomma Loften, Stora Ord” recorded by Ann-Lena Logren.
Once again he worked with Schytts in 1976 on their Halligang 6 as well as performing on the albums Explosiv by Miw Malmkvist, Lauantaiyo by The Kirka & Islanders and the song “Raggie” performed by the flautist Bjorn J:Son Lindh.
In 1977 he co-produced and arranged for Paul Paljett on his album Mumbo Jumbo and he would receive international attention when he went on tour with ABBA in 1977 where they performed in Europe and Australia. He would go on to play instruments on their albums Arrival, ABBA: The Album, Voulez-Vous and Super Trouper.
Athough he spent much of his time with ABBA, he also worked with several other artists as a performer/writer/arranger and some of his further credits include the albums Wellander & Ronander by Wellander & Ronander, Kristina Fran Duvemala: Den Completta Utgaven by Benny Andersson, Veckons Afarrer by John Holm and Kramgoa Latar 6, 8 and 9 and the export album Shenandoah by Vikingarna,
In 1980 and 1981 he recorded the two albums Hjartats Saga and Gyline Morgon as Ingmar Nordstrom Med Lars O. Carlsson Orkester.
He appeared in the documentary film ABBA: The Movie and later in 1988 he is credited as having played the role of Louis in Vergens tid.
He has been credited as Lars O. Carlsson, Lasse Carlsson and Lars Karlsson and has appeared with his own Lars O.Carlsson Orkester.
