Chapman, Matthew

He is a bass singer, pianist, organist, composer and arranger born in Chicago, Illinois, who began learning the piano when in his second grade of school, gained an interest in classical music by the fifth grade and took organ lessons in his senior year of high school. He went on to study at the University of Illinois and graduated with a degree in chemical engineering, but during his years there he still managed to play and be given lessons on the organ.

He took up his professional career as an engineer but never stopped being involved in music and became a member of the Saint Louis Chamber Chorus . With them he appeared in several concerts and also on CDs of theirs such as A Spanish Christmas and Songs of the Soul.

He has appeared with many other ensembles in his musical career including the University of Illinois Repertory and Oratorio Societies, the Bach Society of Saint Louis, the Saint Louis Symphony Chorus and on the piano in the Friends of Music Concerts #4 with the soprano Pamela Triplett and the English horn player Robert Herman.

His compositions have included Sonata for Flute and Piano in D Major, Suites I and II for Piano and Two Choral Responses and he has arranged several of Bach’s works.
