Flower, Edward

He is a lutenist, guitarist, composer, arranger and teacher born in Stratford-upon-Avon, England and currently living in Massachusetts.

He has performed internationally as a soloist, with several ensembles including the Matthew Best Consort and the Empire Brass, and also in a duo with the guitarist Joel Brown.

As an arranger he has put his own style to many classical pieces as well as an array of British folk songs and these arrangements have been published several times.  With his wide repertoire of music he has appeared on several recordings that include The Warwickshire Lad, The Art of the Minstrel and To Carl Michael With Love with the Martin Best Consort , Renaissance & Baroque Guitar Duets with David McLellan, Romantic Brass: Music of France & Spain with the Empire Brass, Duets for Guitar and Flute with Jeremy Barlow , Chords and Thyme with Joel Brown and the Dorian Stereo Morning Sampler.

His compositions have been performed by musicians from the Music Theater Group, the Royal Shakespeare Company and the Julliard Theater and include the guitar music for A Midsummer Night’s Dream and the soundtrack for Into the Mainstream.

As a teacher he has given private tutelage as well as worked with students from Bennington College, Boston University, Ithaca College, Tanglewood Institute.  His other publications include the co-written Complete Idiot’s Guide to Playing Bass Guitar.
