Gibb, Maurice Ernest (22nd December 1949-12th January 2003)

He was a musician and singer-songwriter born in Douglas, Isle of Man, Great Britain and was the twin brother of Robin Gibb .  His family moved to Manchester while he was still young and then in 1958 they emigrated to Australia.

He and his brothers, Robin and Barry, started singing and songwriting from a young age and became the Bee Gees in 1958.  He was generally known as “the quiet one” and was the only one of the three brothers who had not been in trouble with the police before the family emigrated to Australia.  He was married to the singer Lulu from 1969 to 1973.

Along with his brothers, he was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1994 and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997.  Outside of the group he performed a role in the West End musical Sing a Rude Song and had a paintball team he called the Royal Rat Rangers.

He died in Miami, Florida on 12th January 2003 after complications following cardiac surgery and subsequent surgery for a twisted intestine.
