Heim, Bruce

He is a horn player and teacher who studied at the Juilliard School of Music in 1974 and later got a degree in music theory from the University of Tulsa.

After graduation he became Principal Horn for the Oklahoma Symphony Orchestra and has gone on to perform with the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra, the Nashville Symphony Orchestra, Merida Symphony Orchestra, Alabama Symphony Orchestra, Sonus Brass, Louisville Brass and as Acting Co-Principal Horn with the Louisville Orchestra over the 2005-6 season.

In his capacity as a chamber musician he has appeared at very many music festivals held throughout the world in countries such as Taiwan, Germany, Italy, Venezuela and in his home country of the United States.

As a solo musician he has given recitals throughout the United States as well as Venezuela, where he was the International Horn Festival’s 1997 featured artist, and often at workshops for the International Horn Society.

Appearing on several recordings he can be heard on Holiday Brass featuring Susan Slaughter and Captured: Sonus Brass!

As a teacher he is the Horn Professor at the University of Louisville and has also been a faculty member of the Sewanee Summer Music Festival, University of Missouri, Oklahoma State University, Louisiana State University and University of Oklahoma as well as being the American Band College horn clinician in Ashland, Oregon, in 2001 and 2004 and giving masterclasses and private tuition.
