Hellden, Mattias (13th September 1953-Present)

He is a cellist born in Stockholm, Sweden, to a family where his father is the composer Daniel Hellden.  He studied at the Swedish Royal Academy of Music and started his professional career as a classical musician.

In 1985 he joined up with other ex-pupils from the Academy to form the Fleshquartet which are now a very popular ensemble covering a repertoire from rock to classical.

Appearing on many recordings with them he has featured on the albums Goodbye Sweden, Fire Fire, Voice of Eden and the Swedish Grammis Award winning Flow as well as the albums For the Stars by Elvis Costello and Anne Sofie von Otter, In the Middle of This Riddle by Jeannette Lindstrom, This Is by Mercury Motors, The German Years: 1977-1999 by Moondog, This Perfect Day by This Perfect Day and I Let the Music Speak by Anne Sofie von Otter. He also featured on the single “Be Mine” by the singer Robyn.
