Huckaby, David

Cellist who attended Juilliard and the New England Conservatory and studied with Richard Aaron, Andres Diaz, David Finckel, Martha Gerschefski, Bernard Greenhouse, Paul Katz, Joel Krosnick and Laurence Lesser.

Groups with whom he has worked include the Axiom Ensemble, the Bakken Trio, the Boston Modern Orchestra Project, the Callithumpian Consort, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, the Juilliard Orchestra, the Minneapolis Pops, the NEC Philharmonia, the North Carolina International Music Program Chamber Orchestra, the Red Bull Artsehcro, the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra and the University Cello Choir.

In October 2006, the Callithumpian Consort performed “Ever Present” by Alvin Lucier, “Sign Sounds” by Earle Brown and “songbirdsongs” by John Luther Adams in Jordan Hall at the NEC in Boston, Massachusetts.

The Axiom Ensemble teamed up with students from the Zurich University of the Arts in Tonhalle Small Hall on 7th September 2008.  Their program comprised “Elvex” by Jakub Ciupinski, “Incantation” by Jeremiah Duarte Bills, “Lucid Dreams” by Edward Bilous and “Salome Fast” by Ron Ford.

On 23rd October 2009, David and violinist Angelia Cho and violist William Frampton served up a string-trio version of the “Goldberg Variations” by Johann Sebastian Bach at Bunker Hill Presbyterian Church in Sewell, New Jersey.

He and violist David Auerbach and violinists Leslie Shank and Michal Sobieski interpreted the “Divertimento in D major” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart for Mayor Chris Coleman’s inauguration at Union Depot in Saint Paul, Minnesota, on 4th January 2010.

On 20th September 2012, he was one of the members of the SPCO who appeared at Trinity Lutheran Church in Stillwater, Minnesota.  Their recital included “Adagio for Strings” and “Summer Music” by Samuel Barber, “Bright Music” by Ned Rorem, “Divertimento for Nine Instruments” by Walter Piston and “Quintet for Piano, Two Violins, Viola and Cello” by John Harbison.

He left the SPCO in 2014 and was heard as an aorchestra member of the Music in the Mountains Festival in 2017.

He was involved in some controversy in 2016 when he was arrested for drug possession but the matter was thrown out of court by the judge.
