Kuzma, John (1946-Present)

He is an organist and composer who became interested in music from a very young age.  He taught himself to play and write music from the time he was in the sixth grade took private lessons in organ study and studied piano at the Cincinnati Conservatory, followed by gaining a degree at the Eastman School of Music.  He took further studies in Copenhagen. Denmark, on a Fulbright scholarship completed by graduate studies at the University of Illinois.

As a Music Director he has led the San Diego Chamber Chorus and the American Boychoir, and as an organist and a composer he has composed for, and performed with, many ensembles including the Colorado Children’s Chorale, The Denver Brass, the Denver Gay Men’s Chorus, the Colorado Symphony Orchestra, the Ars Nova Singers and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

His list of works includes the music for the Denver visit by Pope John Paul II, the cantata “A Balm in Gilead” and the opera An Island of Sand .

He has been the Minister of Music at Montview Presbyterian Church in Denver and a Music Composition Fellow on the 1999 Colorado Council on the Arts.

In 2006 he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and in 2016 he had successful Deep Brain Stimulation surgery.
