Lyngstad, Anna-Frid “Frida” Synni (15th November 1945-Present)

She was born in Ballangen, Norway to her mother, Synni, and a German sergeant during the German occupation of Norway.  She was brought up in Ekilstuna in Sweden after her mother and grandmother fled to Sweden but her mother died before she was two.  She and her father were reunited in 1977.

She got her first job as a jazz singer in 1958 when she was 13.  She formed her own band Anna Frid Four and she married the bass player in 1963.  They had two children and later divorced.

She was a member of ABBA and met Benny Andersson in 1969 and he produced her album Fridain 1971.  They were engaged for 8 years and married on 6th October 1978.

Aside from being with ABBA she released a successful solo album in 1975 which had the original Swedish version of “Fernando”.  In 1982 she released the album Something’s Going On which was produced by Phil Collins.   That year she won the Rockbjornen award for Best Female Artist.

Her daughter Anna Lise died in a car accident in 1997.   She married Prince Ruzzo Reuss von Plauen in 1992 but sadly he died of cancer in 1999.

She currently lives in Switzerland engaging in low profile charity work and has said that her interest in a music career is now “non-existent”.  However, she released the single “1865” with Dan Daniell in 2015.
