Mahon, John

He is a clarinettist and record producer who studied at London’s Royal College of Music and the University of Alberta.

Extremely active in the music industry in Edmonton, Alberta, he has regularly performed as a clarinettist with groups such as the Alberta Ballet, Edmonton Opera, Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, Edmonton Wind Ensemble, Brian Webb Dance Company and the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, and appeared in chamber performances often for trios.

His work with recordings has seen him appearing on CDs as well as producing on his co-owned classical music label Arktos Recordings Limited.  He has worked either as a musician an/or producer on albums such as Snake Fence Country by Edmonton Wind Ensemble and a set of Brahms’ Clarinet Sonatas with Corey Hamm.

He became Grant Director of the Edmonton Arts Council in 1996 and two years later took the position of Executive Director.
