Martynec, Gene (28th March 1947-Present)

He is a musician born in Germany who was first with Bobby Kris & The Imperials in August 1965 and left them in May 1967 to form the group Kensington Market.

In 1973 he became a member of the group Edward Bear and stayed with them approximately a year leaving around 1974.  After he left the band he went on to produce and perform with artists such as Gordon Lightfoot, Lou Reed, Bruce Cockburn and Rough Trade.

He composed the music for the films The Rip-Off (1971) and Alligator Shoes (1981), as well as winning the 1981 Juno Award for Producer of the Year.

In 2004 he went to Beijing to perform with Yun Jan and appear at several festivals and then after two years in China he moved to London to perform with the London Improvisers Orchestra from 2007 to 2010 and several small ensembles.  He then performed with the Wuppertal Improvisers Orchestra and the Royal Improvisors Orchestra (Amsterdam) before moving back to Toronto in 2010 where he was involved with forming the Toronto Improvisers Orchestra.
