Slide guitarist and vibraphonist who managed to carve a niche for himself on the country music scene, playing vibes on Paul Buskirk’s 1975 album, Hot Pickin’, and releasing albums under his own name.
Gene’s solo efforts include Country Vibes, A Pair of Genes, Sweet Sounds of a Slide Guitar, and Mostly Gene, on which he covered standards such as “Georgia on My Mind”, “I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry”, and “St. James Infirmary”.
He also appeared on every track of the Ronnie Dean album, A Thief in the Night.
Many thanks to Clyde Brewer who very kindly contributed information.
