Nicastro, David

He is a violist born in Glen Cove, New York who moved to The Hague, Netherlands when he was 2 years old and while there started to study the violin when he was 6 years old.

After returning to the United States when he was 18 years old he studied for his Bachelor of Music in violin performance and Bachelor of Arts in English Literature at Boston University.  He took further studies by invitation at Indiana University where he received his Artist Diploma and was awarded a University Fellowship.

He became Associate Principal Viola with the San Francisco Opera Orchestra in 1993 and in June 1995 became a member of The Philadelphia Orchestra.

He also performs as a recitalist and chamber musician with several ensembles.

Recordings he has appeared on include Jennifer Margaret Barker: Geenyoch by Jennifer Margaret Barker and  Peter Tchaikovsky: Symphony No. 6 “Pathetique”/Dumka by The Philadelphia Orchestra.
