Petroczi, Karol (5th March 1944-Present)

He is a violinist, viola d’amore player, conductor and professor who undertook his studies at the Kosice Conservatory in Slovakia followed by further studies in Prague.

He ventured out on his career as a professional musician after his graduation from the Conservatory in 1964 and since then has worked as a concertmaster for several national and international orchestras and ensembles such as the Cairo Symphony from 1971 to 1972, Camerata Helvetica, Kosice Radio Orchestra and Camerata Cassovia.  He is also a longstanding member of the Slovak State Philharmonic, Kosice, being the concertmaster since the orchestra was established in 1969.  He has also worked regularly in collaboration with the pianist Anna Lickova.

Very involved in choral work he has been a choral conductor of a Kosice choir since 1975 and became the conductor for the Choir of St. Cecilia in Kosice in 1996, spending several seasons with them.  He also became the choral conductor of the Collegium Technicum in 1997 and has since led them through oratorios by Dvorak, Mascagni and Mozart and as well as touring throughout Europe with them and winning several choral competitions.

Active in the studio, he has appeared on several recordings that include Baroque Guitar Favourites, Classical Guitar Collection and Eternal Guitar by Camerata Cassovia and Christmas Goes Baroque 1 and Suppe, Overtures Vol. 2 by the Slovak State Philharmonic Orchestra, Kosice.

In the field of musical education he is one of Slovakia’s most respected violin professors.
