Pfistermuller, Wolfgang (1975-Present)

He is a horn player and trombonist born in Wels, Austria who first studied horn and trombone at the Landesmusikschule Neuhofen and went on to study at the Anton Bruckner Private University from 1990, and after his graduation from the Linz Music High School in 1995 he took further studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna.

He took part in many competitions and won first prize at Prima la musica and Jugent musiziert.  He also gave chamber concerts at the International Trombone Orgnaisation’s international trombone festival with the Alterba trombone trio.  He also performed in concerts and made recordings with Pro Brass.

From 1997 to 1998 the Tyrolean Symphony Orchestra gave him a temporary contract as 3rd trombone and later in 1998 he won an audition for the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg.  He became a member of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra in 1999 and has remained with them ever since.

Since joining the VSO he has played in many concerts and recordings and is a member of the Vienna Trombone Quartet.  He has also performed as a member of the Vienna Johann Strauss Orchestra and the Austrian Brass Connection.

Aside from recordings with the VSO he has performed on the albums Variations by Michael Linus Bock & Friends and Slide Factory 2011 by the New Trombone Collective.

In the field of musical education he has been a teacher at the University of Vienna.
