Phillips, Anthony Edwin “Ant” (23rd December 1951-Present)

He is a singer and guitarist born on 23rd December 1951 in London.  His first band was The Spiders with River Job.

While at Charterhouse School he was a member of Anon and then became a founding member of the group Genesis in 1967.   He left the band in 1970 after the release of Trespass due to ill health and stage fright.  He was replaced temporarily by Mick Barnard.  It is said that Mike Rutherford and Tony Banks were so traumatized by this that there was a question whether the band could continue.

After leaving the band he studied classical music, concentrating on classical guitar and made recordings in collaboration with artists including Harry Williamson, Mike Rutherford and Phil Collins.

He released his first solo album in 1977.  He wrote songs with Andy Latimer from Camel and performed on their album The Single Factor.

He continues to work in music and does extensive soundtrack work for TV, some of which he has worked jointly on with Mike Rutherford, such as Horse Trials.
