He is a cellist and professor who studied at the Vienna Music Academy and with two other co-students became a co-founder of the Haydn Trio Wien in 1968.
He has performed as the Principal Cellist of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra and has also performed as part of the 2009 Bregenz Festspiele and the 2013 Salzburder Festspiele. He has since retired.
He has performed on many recordings such as Tchaikovsky: String Quartet No: 2/Souvenir de Florence by the Franz Schubert Quartett, The Teldec Recordings by Edita Gruberova, Encores from Vienna, Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy and Bedrich Smetana: Piano Trios and Antonin Dvorak: Piano Trios with the Haydn Trio Wien, Bach: Made in Germany, Vol 1 and Bach Cantatas IX by Gunther Ramin & The Leipzig Gewendhaus Orchestra, Haydn: Die Shopfung and Tchaikovsky: Piano Concerto No. 2 by the Vienna Symphony Orchestra.
He has been a cello teacher at the Vienna Conservatory.
