Schutte, Lili (1973-Present)

Clarinetist from Leiden, Holland, who started playing at ten years of age and attended the Royal Conservatory in The Hague and the University of Amsterdam.  She graduated with degrees in art history and teaching.  In May 1999, she received her diploma in solo performance.

She has performed with Claudio Abbado, Pierre Boulez, the City of Granada Orchestra, the Daniel Gatti, the Gustav Mahler Jugend Orchester, the Helios-Trio, the Holland Symfonia, the National Ballet of Holland, the Netherlands Chamber Radio Philharmonic, the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, the Netherlands Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Orlando Quartet, the Randstad Begeleidingsorkest, the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, Kurt Sanderling, the Schleswig Holstein Musik Festival Orchestra, The Schoenberg Ensemble, the Symphony Orchestra of the Mediterranean, and the World Orchestra.

The Helios-Trio is rounded out by pianist Ksenia Kouzmenko and violinist Nienke van Rijn.   On 23rd April 2002, they interpreted works by Juriaan Andriessen, Alexander Arutiunian and Igor Stravinsky at Podium Acanthus in Doesburg, The Netherlands.

Lili pulled Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s “Clarinet Concerto” out of her arsenal in concert with the Randstad Begeleidingsorkest in March 2004.

On 4th February 2006, she appeared at the Buiksloterkik in Amsterdam with her fellow NRSO string musicians David Peralta Alegre, Julia Barnes, Maartje Hetsen and Bengt Widlund, for a program entitled “The Colors of the Clarinet”.  The multimedia event juxtaposed music of Brahms, Frantisec Domazlicky and Mozart with the artwork of Christiaan Keuleman.

David and Lili collaborated with pianist Ana Sanchez and soprano Anabela Marcos at the fifth annual Ciclo de musica y palabra in Molinos, Spain, in a recital of works by Manuel de Fall, Jesus Bal y Gay, Roberto Gerhard, Ernesto Halffter, Federico Garcia Lorca, and Joaquin Turina, on 9th October 2006.

In January 2007, the Holland Symfonia and soloist Ralph van Raat offered up a series of concerts at the Muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ Amsterdam, Philharmonie Haarlem and Theater De Vest Alkmaar that comprised Olivier Messiaen’s “Couleurs de la cite celeste voor piano solo en ensemble”, Jean Sibelius’s “Symfonie nr. 6 in d”, Igor Stravinsky’s “Concertino for 12 instruments”, and Erkki-Sven Tuur’s “Insula Deserta”.

They haunted the same venues the fall of 2007 with cellist Artur Trajko and pianist Sepp Grotenhuis.  These concerts comprised:  Morton Feldman’s “Cello and Orchestra”; Arthur Honegger’s “Chant de joie”, “Les maries de la Tour Eiffel:  Marche funebre”, “Rugby (Mouvement symphonique no. 2)”, “Pacific 231 (Mouvement symphonique no. 1)” and “Pastorale d’ete”; and, Erik Satie’s “Danses gothiques (begin)”, Danses gothiques (slot)”, “Gymnopedie no. 3”, “Poudre d’or”, “Sonatine bureaucratique” and “La chasse” from Sports et divertissements.

Once more with feeling:  Same locale, different year, they joined forces with violinist Tinta Schmidt von Altenstadt for Alphons Diepenbrock’s “Danse des Nymphes et Epilogue d’Appollon” from the “Marsyas Suite” and “Hymne voor viool en orkest” and Gustav Mahler’s “Symfonie nr. 5 in cis”, in January 2008.

In the autumn of 2008, Lili returned to Molinos for the seventh annual Ciclo de Musica y Palabra.  She was back home in time for a November 2008 concert with Holland Symfonia and pianist Ronald Brautigam that featured Brahms’ “Concert voor piano nr. 2 in Bes”, Beethoven’s “Symfonie nr. 2 in D”, and Stravinsky’s “Fanfare for a New Theater”.

Katia and Marielle Labeque tickled the ivories on 6th June 2009 at the Holland Festival with The Schoenberg Ensemble in a triple-header of “Haags Hakkuh” by Louis Andriessen, “Preludio all’Infinito” by Diderik Wagenaar, and “Vermeer Pictures” by Louis Andriessen and Clark Rundell.

In September and October 2010, Lili participated in the ninth annual fesitival-nee-Ciclo de Musica y Palabra in Molinos, Spain.
