Schwartz-Lee, Florence (1961-Present)

She is a violinist born in Cleveland, Ohio who started studying the violin at the Cleveland Institute of Music when she was five years old.  While continuing her studies there she participated in several events in Cleveland, the Aspen Music Festival and the Interlochen National Music Camp where she was the winner of many concerto competitions and in 1978 won the Cleveland Philharmonic Young Artists’ Competition.  She took further studies at the Eastman School of Music, where she gained her Bachelor of Music degree and the Mannes School of Music where she earned her Master of Music.

She became a member of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in 1989 under the leadership of Sir Georg Solti.  Since then she has also played at the Marlboro Music Festival and with the Bronx Arts Ensemble.

Recordings she has appeared on include Corigliano: Symphony No. 1, Wagner: Ovetures and Preludes and Brahms: Violin Concerto/Sonata No. 3 by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

She is married to the instrument maker William Harris Lee (Bill) and has three children.
