Seeber, Todd

Double bassist from Spokane, Washington, who was raised in Australia, Canada, and Hawaii.  He started playing at eleven years of age and studied at Boston University and Tangelwood Music Center.  His teachers included Herman Jobelmann and Henry Portnoi.

On 15th October 1984, he gave the world premiere of Graham Gordon Ramsay’s “Prologue and Two Scenes for Double Bass” at the French Library in Boston, Massachusetts.

Groups with whom he has worked include the Boston Pops, the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, the Handel and Haydn Society Orchestra, and the Muir String Quartet.

Recordings on which he has appeared comprise Carol Wincenc, Douglas Webster, Luis Battle, Muir String Quartet and Guests, and the Boston Pops albums, Chris Botti in Boston and Holiday Pops.

On 27th August 2010, the BSO and Tanglewood Festival Chorus performed Gloria by Francis Poulenc and The Planets by Gustav Holst at the Tanglewood Music Center in Lenox, Massachusetts.

He and James Orleans, Donald Palma and Lawrence Wolfe interpreted Gunther Schuller’s “Quartet for Double Basses” in Jordan Hall at the New England Conservatory on 1st November 2010.

In the field of music education, he has taught the Boston University College of Fine Arts, the NEC, the State University of New York in Buffalo, and Tanglewood.  He has also given master classes at the Hawaii Contrabass Festival and Trinity Episcopal Church in Lenox.
